Meet Lani Mackie of Revolutions Salon in East Bridgewater

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lani Mackie.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lani. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had a passion and love for hair and makeup. I was that little girl who cut all her Barbie’s hair off and highlighted them with color markers, always doing friends hair and makeup during middle school and high school. I just wanted to be the person who made everyone feel their best. Their most beautiful self.

I have three aunts and four cousins that are all in the industry and are major influences in my life and where I am today. My cousin Sarah Rodrigues, owner of Making You Glow took me right under her wing to be a part of the bridal industry.

My boss Melissa Battaglia owner of Revolutions and my aunt Priscila Camarao have worked together for 20 years. So naturally after I graduated Hair school Revolutions Salon and Spa took me right in and I couldn’t of felt more blessed to have all these people in my life and now I’m five years in the industry loving everything I do from behind the chair, and fun photo shoots to weddings. I get to make people feel beautiful in every way everyday and to me there is nothing better than that!

Has it been a smooth road?
The road was a little bumpy for a bit! Two years ago I thought my career was going to be on a long stand still after I got in a car accident and tore a ligament in my hand. I was Devastated. I had to be out for 10 weeks! Meanwhile I was also planning a wedding. It was a lot emotionally but I thank God everyday for my coworkers and my clients, because they were so uplifting and positive. They got me through! I’d be lying to you if I told you this industry doesn’t put a toll on your body but it does. But it’s what pushes me everyday to take care of my body and listen so I can be the best I can be!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Revolutions Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a Hair and Makeup Artist. I work Full time behind the chair at Revolutions Salon in East Bridgewater Ma. I also freelance for making you Glow doing weddings and photo shoots etc. I specialize in balayage which is hand painting color/lightener. The girls at work call me the balayllama (haha) because I just love to balayage. I also specialize in Fashion vibrant colors, braids, updos, and makeup. I am so proud to work for the businesses I do. We just uplift each other and want to see everyone grow and succeed, you can’t find a lot of salons out there like that it’s always a competition for some reason.

What sets me apart from other stylist? I honestly believe it’s my passion and love for my Job.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Oh my goodness this industry is always evolving and growing especially with all the social media! Instagram is insane and awesome. It gets myself and all artist to put ourselves out there in such a way to connect with others around the world it’s pretty incredible. I’m still working on my social media skills. Like trying to film a before and after look and creating a cool video. It’s a lot of work, but I think this is where the hair world is going to attract more clients and work etc.

I feel like Trends always do a complete 360 they come they go and they come again. I love that though, this industry definitely keep you on its toes with how things evolve.
