Meet Kyle Logue of Essex County Auto Repair in Middleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Logue.

Kyle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got my first job working on Taxi’s in Burlington Mass. I started out doing oil changes and tires. I was 15, it was my sophomore year of high school, and I enrolled in the vocational program in Peabody High. The Auto teacher at the time got me a job working at a local Honda dealer. There I was hired as an oil lube technician. The shop foreman saw me as better than an oil lube tech and put some time into training me. I then went on to become a Honda certified Level A Technician. After 2 years of working there, I wasn’t happy with how the dealership was treating its customers and looked for a new avenue. I went through a few independent repair shops until I found one that I was comfortable with the way they ran their business and how the employees were treated. I worked at that shop for over 7 years. Just before Thanksgiving in 2014 I was let go from that job. I was on the hunt for another job when I decided the only way I would be happy with where I was working, was if I was my own boss. In the past I struggled with owners of other shops not being fair or honest with their customers. I wanted that to be different at my shop. So in November of 2014 I opened Essex County Auto Repair. I worked alone for almost a year and a half until I hired my first employee. There is now 3 of us and we are on the hunt for a 4th.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest struggle we have had is trying to find the right balance between working on my company and working in my company. As a mechanic it is easy for me to take in a vehicle and figure out what is wrong with it and fix it. But to learn to have good customer service, run the office and also fix the cars has been my biggest struggle.

Essex County Auto Repair – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We service all makes and models, Foreign and Domestic. Whether it be an oil change or an engine replacement, we very rarely turn down a job. We try not to say we specialize in any area because people tend to get stuck on that and think that you don’t do anything else. But we do a lot of repairs that other shops turn away. Such as diesel engine repairs. It is actually one of our strongest abilities. I am proud of our reputation as a trust worthy shop. Being honest with our customers and not trying to take advantage of their trust is really what sets us apart from the rest. This industry has a bad name and it’s hard to find an honest mechanic. We strive to build a better industry where people feel better about bringing their car to a mechanic.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is knowing that my customers feel good leaving my shop. We love to hear feedback from our customers. Every customer gets an email from us when their vehicle is done asking them how they felt and to give us feedback on the process of bringing their vehicle to us. A lot of our customers feel so good about their experience with us that they go to the internet to tell others about us (Google, Facebook, yelp etc.)
