Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Bahr.
Kristine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a clinical, functional medicine nutritionist whose career grew out of my childhood challenges with food sensitivities and allergies. The problem was so severe that I had to receive shots and sterilize my environment to manage her condition. As an adult, I discovered that my issues were caused by an improper diet. When I tested myself for food sensitivities and eliminated the items that caused inflammation, my health improved. In 2001, I combined my degrees in counseling and clinical nutrition to establish Cutting Edge Wellness in the Boston area.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a journey of self-discovery. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to learn from brilliant mentors in my field of “Functional Medicine”. My challenges were centered on running my business. I regret not having a business degree before opening my business. I have paid from my mistakes. After 16 years of private business consultations, my business is running smoothly.
Please tell us about Cutting Edge Wellness.
I specialize in finding the “root cause of illness”. The initial consultation develops a complete picture of needs, lifestyle and objectives. I also outline any required diagnostic testing, which can include checking for parasites, metabolic, lipid and genetic testing, assessing nutrient deficiencies and testing for food sensitivities. I’m not into quick fixes. People are complex and I’m dedicated to identifying the root causes of illness through a functional medicine approach. I work with clients to develop a plan that helps them reach the point where they can heal themselves.
I like to think of my business as “Science and Soul”. I combine my counseling skills to understand my client’s mental blocks, which prevent them from accomplishing their nutrition goals with my scientific methods of discovering their nutritional needs.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have taken business courses or found a business coach to help me develop sound business practices. I needed more guidance from an expert.
