Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Seaton.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kristen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started teaching swim lessons 16 years ago in California, 7 years ago I moved back home to Boston from California. At that point, I started a traveling swim school, where we went to peoples houses and taught swim lessons and life-guarded backyard parties.
My oldest daughter is 2 years old, when she was born I decided that I could not travel for work anymore, so I started teaching at my home base pool in Braintree. Because of my daughter, I got really into infant swimming parent/child classes to be specific. Drowning is the leading cause of death in kids under the age of 4 and I knew just how easy it would be for my daughter to wander off into a body of water. I started the program with my oldest (Harper) and she taught parent/child swim lessons with me 7 days a week.
Now I teach with my 7-Month-old daughter (Logan) 7 days a week. I started my parent/child learn to swim program 2 years ago on September 4th and have grown from 4 swimmers to 820 swimmers in those 2 years. Now my passion is teaching kids ages 2 Months – 36 Months how to swim, how to be able to save there lives, how to teach their parents what to do in the water with them, and to empower parents to feel safe when swimming with there child or multiple children without using flotation devices.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggle has been in the lack of education on water safety that parents have in this area. And teaching them/our community that in fact, we can actually start teaching a child to swim at 2 months old.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Powers Aquatics – what should we know?
I teach learn-to-swim parent/child swim classes at a very reasonable rate. I specialize in teaching babies (2 months old – 36 Months old) how to swim and be able to save there lives if they were to fall in the water then transition them into learning the 4 competitive swim strokes before they turn 3.
I am most proud of starting my parent/child program and being able to reach as many families from all over New England. I am very proud of how much I have been able to educate parents on how to be safe around the water with there children & how to correctly enforce safe swimming habits.
What sets Powers Aquatics apart, I pride my self on the fact that your child will never have a substitute teacher, I (your teacher) has 16 years in infant swim teaching experience, your child will absolutely learn to swim, we do not sign songs & play games, your child will love the water & you as a parent will begin to feel calm and confident in your child’s swimming skills.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am very passionate about my mission and teaching swim lessons and the impact that drowning prevention can have on a community.
I am very hard working, I am in the water teaching 7 days a week for over 45 hours a week. I have 2 amazing kids who lucky love to be in the water and teach with me & I have 1 amazing extremely supportive husband.
