Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Callanan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been an RN since 1994, graduating from University of Massachusetts at Lowell, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
After working at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for many years in acute care, I decided to also pursue a license in Esthetics at Catherine Hinds Institute. Since 2000, I had built a loyal clientele performing Medical Esthetics treatments, including facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and lasers, while co-owning a salon/spa. In 2008, I became certified in injectable treatments, including Botox Cosmetic and dermal fillers, and continued to utilize my other skills in anti-aging skin care services as well, to create a 3-dimensional approach to renewing the skin from the surface level down to the deep dermis. This well-rounded approach to being a Medical Aesthetic Nurse provider and servicing the aging population, who are also looking for non-surgical treatment options to improve the look their skin and their face as a whole, has allowed me to get to where I am today. In 2013, I opened Renew Skincare Centre & Spa, located in Canton, MA on Route 138. We offer med spa services as listed above- Botox Cosmetic, dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane, Kybella, various laser services listed on the website, facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and waxing. We have a great staff of RN’s, estheticians and support staff dedicated to outstanding customer service and results! We have had many wonderful online reviews and referrals, and are always thankful to our loyal customers!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t ever think it is a smooth road, but with faith, perseverance, the love of what I do for a living, the will to succeed, a great family, an amazing husband and children, supportive friends and an exceptional team at Renew who also love what they do for a living, and are always there to help me in any way that they can, all of the bumps in the road don’t seem as bad as some may see them! I try to take life day by day, always giving my best efforts and staying positive. Growing a business from the ground up is not an easy task, especially with elementary school-aged children involved in many of their own things, but trying to stay balanced along the way helps. I think that is probably the hardest part of owning a small business.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I think what sets us apart from others is our super-friendly and relaxed environment, which clients love! We have a really good group of women, who are happy, friendly people, who like to smile, engage in conversation and who also strive for excellent customer service from the moment someone walks in the door of our beautiful location. Some clients have said that we are a “hidden gem” or like a “Boston med spa” located in Canton. We are right on Route 138 (off 128/93), located in a private professional building on a third-floor suite. We have parking in the front and back of the building, allowing for private entrance. We are a clean, modern and beautiful 2,100 square foot space with six treatment rooms.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up with two brothers, one older and one younger. So, I was definitely a tomboy, loving to be outside and playing sports and games with neighborhood friends as much as possible. I think I had a competitive nature, always trying to be as good as my brothers in sports, riding bikes, games, etc. I did not like to do house chores, and would rather help raking leaves or something that my brothers had to do. I played soccer for 8 years, and then field hockey for 4 years in high school. I was always creative, so I enjoyed arts and crafts. In school, my strong points were Math and Sciences. I have always loved people, so I think I am considered to be very friendly. I love to laugh and have fun. Caring about people, I can tend to be emotional, which can be a struggle at times.
