Knara & Michael , let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Zipper Hospital is unique and unusual business itself. Established in 1914 by juwish family immigrated from Europe. Bigining was located in Dorchester MA ,after wile in West Rocksberry MA,and later to Brookline MA where business passed from father to son in 1940 es, by the name of family called “Richma’s zipper hospital.”
In 1987 my small family of 4 immigrats from Soviet Armenia to USA reunite rest of the family. We wher starting new life and had to look job opportunities. One Sunday morning my husband found inz Boston Globe lest expensive business on new paper add for sale. It was just head to imagine us getting into business first time in our life into challenges.
But I had some confidence on my tayloring skills and zipper designing experience inherited from my grandma and my father. It worked out for us.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It been not esaey at all first time expereriance business oweners. We where in panic how we gonna pay credit cards we borrowed money from, pay the bills, rents, and make living for family. My husband start working second job to earn health care expances. One of us had to drop off and pick up our child’s from school.
Of course we getting better each year passing by but father 4 yers later we open 2 new locations in Cambridge MA and In Belmont MA. Wright now we still Owen the original Zipper Hospital in 20 years aniversery of our owenership we change the name just
Zipper Hospital getting into tecnolonoge world.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Zipper Hospital – what should we know?
The Zipper Hospital does zipper repair and replace on any type of clothing, winter coats and parkas,hand bags, backpacks, luggages and duffle and carry on bags, sleeping bags, tents, covers in large( musical instruments boats,mattress, pillows,dogs cage,sofa,… more)
In sports we do divers suits bicycle riders jackets,fancing suits, ski jackets,
hockey bags. bickers heavy duty leather jackets and pants, jeep comvertable top and door windows and more…nonstop.
General expert alternation any type and kind, nontoxic dry cleaning , sued and leather ,fur repairs plus cleaning and dyeing. We did work on prototypes with university projects, Perkins school of blind, Beth Israel Hospital and more …. I can’t remember
Next year 2018 going to celebrate 30th aniversery our ownership. and I am happy to say we succsed until today Zipper Hospital still in business
