Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberlee Smith.
Kimberlee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner of 3 years, Registered Nurse for 9 years. I opened my business a little over a year ago and have been growing it ever since. I’ve always had an interest in cosmetic medicine and knew I wanted to open my own business when the timing was right. I’m honored to offer the community (where I grew up) a place to receive professional and medical grade skin rejuvenation treatments. I work per diem at Southern Maine HealthCare in the urgent care center, which is my second passion.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening was a fairly smooth process for me. I took my time to figure out what my business plan was and I made sure to start small and work my way up. I wanted to offer many new things when I first opened but I started small and have slowly expanded my treatments. I knew what I wanted to offer and have worked hard to stick to my beliefs. Cosmetic medicine is an easy field to get wrapped up in and I have fought hard to stay true to what I believe are the best treatments for my clients. I have found re-evaluating my business every 3-6 months has helped keep my business on track with the model I had laid out originally.
Please tell us about Coastal Aesthetics Medi-Spa.
We are a medical spa specializing in customized cosmetic and spa skin rejuvenation treatments. I have an esthetician who works with me and provides our spa treatments including customized facials & peels, waxing, laser services, eyelash/brow tinting, and derma planning. I offer injectable, micro needling, kybella, laser skin resurfacing, and soon will be offering IV hydration and vitamin injections. We carry SkinCeuticals as our skincare line and offer Latisse for eyelash growth. I am proud to be one of the only medical spas on the Seacoast that is solely owned and run by a Nurse Practitioner. My esthetician, Becky, and I are very conservative in our treatment approaches. We take time with our clients when developing a treatment plan and focus on what their needs & wants are. We know our patients life story because we take the time to develop a friendship along with educating them how to improve their skin health.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Family time! My parents have owned their own business for 35 years and planted the entrepreneurial seed in me. Growing up my sister and I would spend our days at the business (a garden center & nursery) which allowed us to spend quality time together. We took many family vacations growing up and I hold these memories close to my heart. We were lucky to spend so much time together as a family… This has really helped me shape my own family and values.
