Meet Kim Purdy of Bodywork Wellness Therapy in Quincy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Purdy.

Kim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 1983 I began studying Asian Bodywork, specifically Shiatsu, after completing the course I was invited over to a whole person clinical internship, it was named “Lemuel Shattuck Chronic Pain and Stress Relief Clinic”, I did this (non paid), two day a week (15 hour), for one year.

I worked at a vegan restaurant in Allston MA. During this same time, I opened my Wellness Clinic in 1997, where I still have my practice. Now I am a professional homeopath as well as a licensed Asian Bodywork Therapist, a little fusion in that I do Shiatsu, but with a strong Tuina influence. As a homeopath I have earned advance management degree in treatment and management of Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am also very energetic and enjoy jogging, weight lifting as well as qi gong, tai chi. Spiritual pursuits are very important to me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has never been a smooth road as a self-employed single female. I could simply write a book on what happens in 20 years in running a business and staying in business.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bodywork Wellness Therapy story. Tell us more about the business.
I am proud at my ability to understand what my client’s needs are. As a bodyworker (Asian Bodywork) similar to acupuncture, no needles and a homeopath, you are treating the person as an individual, never a cookie cutter treatment.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. Hard work Trusting and faith in my ability.
