Meet Kerrie Gotell of KFIT body

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerrie Gotell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Eight years ago, I was working in a clinic as a Physical Therapist Assistant, and a few of my girlfriends asked if I would train them at a local park over the summer.

In a short couple of months, our small workout squad evolved into a larger group of women who were coming together four nights per week for community exercise. Every day, I looked forward to leaving my day job to go and train them at night.

That’s when the passion started to bloom. I guess it showed because, by the end of the summer, the girls were on me to find an indoor space for the winter. I booked a few hours at a local Zumba studio. It took me a full year later to build enough confidence to abandon my full-time job.

In eight years, we have grown out of three locations and most recently settled into our new 7,000 sq ft facility in Hingham here on the south shore. We have evolved from a strictly fitness-based studio into a more holistic wellness facility for women, now offering a full suite of services from daycare, to nutrition, fitness, massage and now physical therapy.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This quote sums up my answer: If you do not make mistakes, then you’re not working on solving hard enough problems. There are countless obstacles that business owners face.

Yes, we all experience external challenges, from business operations to marketing and sales, etc. But I have found that my deepest struggles have come from within. Self-doubt, fear of failing, or even simply understanding our own weaknesses all come into play.

My biggest struggle is developing the details. I tend to be more of a visionary, a big picture thinker. I know where I want to be and I often just sprint there and hope my team can write the playbook on how to get there for me. They love me for that (wink, wink). I believe there is always a level of chaos that comes with running a successful business.

While daily operations should run smoothly outside of minor glitches here and there, the bigger picture is always a work in progress and cannot be ignored. When one project settles, it’s on to the next, always evolving. I think complacency is a brand killer and we always strive to be the best at our craft.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about KFIT body – what should we know?
KFIT is a wellness studio based in Hingham that offers customized and group fitness, nutrition and self-care related services for women only.

KFIT is more than just a gym—we’re a tight-knit community of women dedicated to pushing our own boundaries, both mentally and physically, to achieve goals we never thought were possible.

The Limit-Breakers, inspired by a phenomenal team of expert coaches who serve our community in an unmatched manner, and one another.

Our core mission is to help women recognize their potential. You are not just a name at KFIT, your goals are our own, your struggles are ours, and your wins are celebrated by all.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
RESILIENCE, by a long shot! The definition speaks for itself—the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. This quality is tied in so deeply to who I am, what we offer, and how I hope to lead and inspire the KFIT community.

Resilience has enabled me to stumble, scrape my knees, bruise my ego, and still get back up again, inside and out of the studio. I have learned how to pivot after a gut instinct kicks in, when logic and intuition align, even when I’m drowning in self-doubt.

I am empowered with resilience to continue to fall, flail, and fail, and bounce back with greater clarity and drive than before. It’s an unbelievable feeling when you truly accept that sky’s the limit, with some roadblocks along the way.
