Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Gaudreau.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kevin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started working in kitchens when I first got out of the USMC. It was a dishwasher position and I loved it. Over the course of many different positions I realized that I really enjoyed working in the thankless world of kitchens. I was lucky enough to work with some great Chef’s in California, Maryland and New York City as my career grew. I’ve held numerous positions from Chef/Owner to Culinary Arts Director. My favorite has been the owner of KG Kitchen located in Providence, RI. We are a 70 seat “scratch” kitchen that looks to deliver well-crafted dishes at an affordable price. We opened in January of 2017 and it’s been a great ride so far. We have a very talented BOH & FOH crew that are truly committed to providing all of our guest a great experience.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road is never smooth. There are constant obstacles along the path and over the years I have been able to see them as they come. Some of the biggest obstacles for any Chef is keeping the product current, maintaining cost, creating a space for your employees to take ownership and growing your fan base. It is a very demanding profession but I do enjoy what I do.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the KG Kitchen story. Tell us more about the business.
KG Kitchen is a small (70) seat restaurant and bar catering to our local Hope Street Village fans and surrounding areas. Chef de Cuisine James English brings a fresh, modern approach to locally sourced products to provide healthy, affordable and delicious food to our guest. Seafood is always on the menu but we do offer Neighborhood Classic’s that the regulars love. We are not in the neighborhood to compete with the other great restaurants, we just want to offer a great alternative to what’s out there.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There is no such thing as luck. You have to go out there and earn everything you get. Head down, high integrity products and great technique will do the rest.

KG Kitchen is in Providence (not Boston) and that is not a picture of Kevin at the top of the page. Just an FYI.
