Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Doherty.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, there were two constants in my life: fire trucks and eating great homemade pizza. I knew I always wanted to follow in the family business and become a fire fighter, which I have been since 2009. Cooking was always a hobby, and I enjoy making family favorites for my group in the fire house. It finally dawned on me that these two passions could work together. So I set out to restore an old truck and install a wood fire oven. .
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road in business! There was a lot of learning to do in regards to mobile business, permitting and licensing. Massachusetts, and Boston in particular, are ahead of the curve in terms of food trucks, so it was helpful to be able to reach out to the city as a resource.
3rd Alarm Wood Fired Pizza – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
3rd Alarm Pizza provides high quality pizza with a completely unique experience. All of our pizzas are handmade and cooked in our wood fire oven that we installed in the back of a 1968 Mack Fire Truck. We specialize in and are known for our pizzas but also offer chicken wings, stuffed peppers, salads, anything you may need to complete an event of any kind. I’m proud of my team, my wife handles all the scheduling, billing and behind the scenes action, and I get to have my dad and brother involved in onsite logistics.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far has been catering a retirement party for a fellow Revere Fire Lieutenant. He had worked with my father for 35 years and was my Lieutenant for 8 years. It was a great experience seeing my fellow brothers and sisters of the department enjoying themselves as much as I enjoyed serving them.
