Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Brittingham.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At 19 I started a small silencer company in the back of my local gun store in Lawrenceville, GA. I owned it from about 1993, and had great success growing every year. In 2011 sold to a larger manufacturer. At the time, I thought this was best for my family. With some changes and decisions made by management, we parted ways. I tried working with another larger manufacturer but it just wasn’t what I had expected.
Which led me to Q – how I started this company was through a severe dissatisfaction with other larger companies within the firearms industry. I got to where I am through some percentage of luck but also passion for the firearms industry and innovation.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With this being the second time around, owning my own business, it is much smoother than it could be. We have the typical small business struggles – financing, distribution, product development, and resources. Unlike my first business, it isn’t financial. The challenges are more around culminating the right team and working on the projects we are most passionate about. Additionally, having a good work life balance and ensuring the employees do as well.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Q – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Q is an innovation company specializing in small arms for both the commercial and military customer(s). I am most proud of the people, our team. After that would be, hitting a couple of home runs at our first at bat with new products.
Q is different within our industry because of our work environment, being product and customer focused, and our relentless desire to be the best and not necessarily the biggest.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I hope to never have big changes. I hope to continue the quality of life for employees and for us to grow responsibly. I will measure success by the impact we have on the industry.
It would be exceptional for us to continue to be innovative and ahead of the industry enough to where we pick our products and what we work on. Personally, I measure a lot of it by the happiness of the employees here.
