Meet Kettie Munroe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kettie Munroe.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kettie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been writing and composing songs since I was thirteen years old. As a 90’s kid, I was influenced by the Spice Girls, Aaliyah, Michael Jackson, and Janet Jackson. I’ve grown to become a talented vocalist and have developed a unique sound by experimenting with and fusing different genres.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like many upcoming artists, it has not been a smooth road. Throughout my journey I found myself facing a lot of Dilemmas including being homeless. Not once, but twice.

Even though I kept a part-time job catering at Harvard & MIT my colleagues had no clue that after my shift I had nowhere to go those nights.

I also had to deal with the dilemma of the primary recording studio that I worked out of getting broken into which delayed my project back 2 more years because all of my original material was gone and I had to start from scratch

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My Alternative/pop singer/songwriter. I specialize in writing Top 40 Hits. After high school, I moved to Florida and told a dynamic writing workshop at palm beach state for 6 months. I’m known for a lot of upbeat pop tunes yet a little trance & dark music as well. I have a balance between the two genres. My songs never sound like that last and I’m well known to fuse different genres into one.

What sets me apart from others s especially growing up in Boston, is that when people see a Haitian / American girl they assume I make R&B/ Hip Hop music when in reality I’m a lover of pop & rock n roll. I’ve never got the mold cause I’m also not your average pop star. It surprises people when I belt out bands from the 80s like simple minds & the Beatles when they’re expecting Mariah Carey or Sade. I’m most proud of how far my Debut EP took me without a label or investor.

I recently performed at New York Fashion Week in the World Trade Center. I was also able to attend the 60th annual GRAMMY Awards viewing party hosted by VH1’s Save the Music in New York City. With my skilled vocals and distinctive sound alone, my music sure helped me get to the next level. Being a unique individual played a huge role in that. The pop industry has a lot of standards so not fitting in with the rest can be difficult yet there’s Nothing wrong with being different

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I was to have started over, I probably would’ve moved to California after high school instead of Florida. Nothing personal, it’s just maybe the experiences would be been greater yet again I can’t always complain because I do admire who I became.
