Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerry Hawkins.
Kerry, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am fine art photographer. I attended the Art Institute of Boston, majoring in graphic design. I have always been interested in Photography. I became serious about photography in my second year of college and I have been photographing ever since. It is my way of expressing myself creatively
As a photographer and artist I am drawn to the contrasts, complexity and vibrancy of cityscapes and neighborhoods there are a myriad of opportunities to capture unseen moments and scenes in city life.
I have also started nature, I love the shape of leaves and petals. I have a community garden. Growing things fascinate me. I have also started photographing little animal toys. They make me smile. It is fun to experiment with photographing miniatures.
I live in Dedham, MA. I am a Co-Founder of the Dedham Square Artist Guild in Dedham Square. I show my work at this gallery/shop. The Dedham Guild is an artist coop and we are going on our 8th year
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It isn’t always been a smooth road. Life happens! I have made steady gains in the field. I have been able to also to use my camera to photograph people, events, products and more.
It can be a struggle to keep disciplined and photograph every week. Spending time on the craft of photography. It can be hard to keep creative. You have to push yourself. I find photographing with other photographers helps you inspire yourself and fellow photographers
Kerry Hawkins Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is fine art photography and I am also a graphic designer. I am mostly known for my fine art and event photography. I often attend a lot of fund raising parties in my community and have a great time photographing these events. I am most proud that I have used my photography business to advance the love of art in my community. I hope to inspire other people to pursue their artistic passion. Even photography has a unique style and I think my vision sets me apart.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The opening of the Dedham Square Artist Guild has been my proudest moment so far. Having a permanent place to show my work in this collective gallery has been terrific.
