Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenyah Browne.
TheLastGekko is a Producer, Rapper and Artist. Born and raised in Boston, MA. He has made a name for himself on the independent scene. The journey began at an open mic night known as CHEAP SEATS, A monthly mash-up of local talent showcasing their work. This community would build and grow in support throughout 2014-2015.
In August of 2015 he created the collective PEACEPIPE. Working alongside “artist centric” spaces such as (ISCA, Makeshift Boston & more) to create platforms for performing artists. These events were mildly successful. However, the stress of being and independent musician and throwing events wore out on THELASTGEKKO.
THELASTGEKKO first appeared onto the scene in 2015 with his first single “Sudowudo”. A psychedelic, and hard hitting expose on parties and drug culture within the scene. It clearly defined him as a thinking man. This would be followed up with 2 more EP’s produced by @suprchnk. “Dreaming” & “Mischievous Energy”. Both these projects were interesting, but still felt like something was missing from his work.
2 years later THELASTGEKKO drops “PHLVLS “a full length, self-produced album. Showing the capability & musicality to carry an entire project. The dark, moody, and powerful lyrics paired with emotive anthems and smooth drums creates a world unlike any other.
“STIMULATE” drops 3 months later, and the single is his best performing work to date. The single was added to his “VISIONS BEFORE” EP, which dropped in Jan 2018
Following that, his newest release was in June 2018. The ‘Journal EP’. His work is heavily influenced by his passion for creativity. Pulling from many genres of music and combining them into new, living, rhythmic works of power
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Over the course of my development, I have encountered:
Financial issues – being an independent musician is difficult without proper guidance.
Racial discrimination- living in a house of racial bias from a multitude of sources
Mental issues- diagnosed with symptoms of bpd.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been aware of the great opportunities presented to me. I have also made a point to take them as soon as I become aware of them.
Luck is the ability to tap into your intuition and act on it.
