Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Carpenter.
Kelly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a massage therapist; board certified and licensed in the state of NH, for 9 years. I worked in spas, in one of the franchises, and in other privately owned practices, but I always had a vision of creating a healing space of my own. In visioning the wellness center I wanted it would be a “one stop shop” so to speak. Every one seeking Holistic approaches to health care seem to go here for one thing, there for another, and someplace else for something else. I want to harness all the talented holistic practitioners I can under one roof to refer to each other, work together as a team to get the best results for our clients. So far, I have myself performing therapeutic massage, energy, and other body work, as well as another energy practitioner. We work out of one office at this time as IBODY is still in its infancy stage at only a year and half. Eventually, I’d like a space to include acupuncture, meditations, yoga, and even chiropractic. In addition to the offerings we currently have available.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say the toughest thing about starting a business is financing. Financially, I am boot strapping the business, so as the clientele base grows, we grow. It’s not as fast as I had hoped, but we are chugging along. We recently rolled out some programs to make therapeutic bod/energy work a bit more affordable for folks to receive regularly. It is such beneficial and good work, but health insurance doesn’t play nice with us, so folks get stuck in the allopathic medicine world getting prescriptions, and then more prescriptions for the side effects of the medications initially prescribed and the ball rolls in from there.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Just sticking with it, trying new things, educating ourselves on different things. In fact, I have been studying vibrational healing with tuning forks and will soon be adding this option to our menu of services and I will also be getting schooling for canine massage and bodywork in 2018 and adding this to the services menu as well. My elderly dog, Kayla, has been taking me on a journey with her ailments and has inspired me to further my education when it comes to small animal body/energy work. I have had a tough time finding therapeutic holistic treatments for her and would love to be able to offer a place for those seeking care for their beloved pets.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
This work is so beneficial and each practitioner, although we learn the same basic techniques brings their own style and energy into the work. Like attracts like, there is work for all I see other therapists as colleagues. Having to take continuing education and having so many different body work modalities Inrefer to other therapists if I think my client needs their work. This is where the growth of IBODY will come in to where we can have multiple practitioners in the practice and refer to each other.
