Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaz Hardy, Amber Drake and Aya Lanzoni.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kaz, Amber and Aya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Kaz: Well my mother has been a hairstylist for as long as I can remember, so I grew up looking in the mirror and watching my mom care about how she looked and felt. It wasn’t until I got back from my adventures in Hawaii that my mom had started booth renting above an existing salon. It was great at first just going to work with her to help out. It started out with small things, like painting the walls, or moving furniture across the room, looking for the perfect layout. That transitioned to websites, credit card processing machines, and training manuals. It didn’t take long after that until I started shampooing and applying color, not because I loved it, but because I was doing as I was told. I look back at it now and, in a way, it made me respect all the years my mother had put into the industry. After taking a break and working for a few different marketing companies and dealerships, I realized that I was meant to own my own business, not work for one. It was at that point that I had agreed to attend cosmetology school and attain my license in order for me to take over the business at the time my mother chose to retire. So I went and started the long journey of trying to figure out how this industry works trying to use cut and color to make people look and feel amazing. Fast forward to today, and I am one of the top income producers in the salon and have no plans of slowing down any time soon!
Amber: I started by first teaching myself how to braid at a very young age, to using a crimper, to curling mine and my friends’ hair for prom and other special occasions. Styling hair always came naturally to me. After graduating high school, I attended Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy and have been creating hairstyles and color designs at Rivkah’s Hair Studio for 5 years, and I couldn’t be more passionate about the industry. Working in a supportive salon with vast resources has gotten me to where I am today. Career development classes have been a large part of my success. I also do continuing education with several product and color lines, including Eufora, Loma, and Affinage.
Aya: I went to college for Journalism and Writing, where I learned to become highly organized, and work quickly and efficiently. I also grew up involved in the creative art scenes and networked a lot in my free time. I met Rivkah through a networking group and shortly after became the Executive Assistant and Salon Coordinator of Rivkah’s Hair Studio. I assist our clients whenever possible, managing sales consultants, assisting with events, and providing support to our amazing stylists. Quite the multi-tasker, I am also an entrepreneur and run my own music and event marketing company Tinydragon Promotions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Kaz: I remember doing a blow dry for one of the girls in school and will never forget what she said: Essentially it was the worst blowout she ever had; it was rough, frizzy, and she felt uncomfortable during the entire process. It was at that moment that I decided to be the best in the entire school. From there, I would go to school 2 hours early for months practicing and perfecting my craft. The main challenge that I face every day is two-fold: making sure we maintain a happy clientele, and continue to lead my team toward success, all the while trying to maintain balance and clarity in my own life. There is no perfect time to start your journey. Just trust yourself and do it. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to have the tools to be successful!
Amber: It has mostly been a smooth road. It takes investing a lot of time into this career to be successful. When I first started at Rivkah’s Hair Studio, my commute was 45 minutes and was working 3 jobs, learning how to really manage my time well and I feel as though it has helped me in the salon setting.
Aya: I’m definitely learning a lot about the business end of things, as well as learning more about hair care. I normally used to throw my hair in a ponytail, no products, and letting my frizz fly free, so working at Rivkah’s Hair Studio has taught me that hair care is SO important! There definitely is a lot more to learn about the brands we carry, such as Loma and Eufora, but I am excited to learn more about hair care while feeling fabulous!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rivkah’s Hair Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Kaz: I am known for my balayage work, men’s cuts, and designs, as well as specializing in various bobs and pixies. What makes me proud to work here at Rivkah’s Hair Studio is that we all strive for perfection, as a team and individually. We all work together as a team, so I don’t feel afraid to fail or afraid to try something new! What sets us apart from others would have to a combination of our quality of work, products, and attention to detail. As a company, Rivkah’s Hair Studio is very proud to work with our surrounding Metrowest community, whether they need a consultation or working with various outreach programs, providing complimentary haircuts or donations, and always considering the needs of our community.
Amber: Rivkah’s Hair Studio is more than just a place to get your hair done. You can get a professional hair service in a relaxed environment, where people feel like they can relax, read a book, have a cup of coffee, meet or interact with other people getting their hair serviced. People feel at home here. A few of my most requested services are blonding, single process colors, and haircuts, and specializing in different foiling techniques. My passion for the art of hair dressing alone sets me apart from others.
Aya: Rivkah’s Hair Studio is a place where passion and creativity come alive. Everyone is welcome through our doors, and we invite you to come and enjoy yourself and have the stylists work their magic to give you a personalized experience. Rivkah, Kaz, and Amber are quite amazing at what they do, and care so deeply and are passionate about their clients’ needs. I’m personally most proud of the fact that everyone here at Rivkah’s Hair Studio is a team player and we all support one another. We love our clients and we’re all passionate people looking to make everyone feel amazing.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
One of the trends we’re seeing right now is interchanging styles, and hair is becoming more gender fluid. Clients are more informed and looking for more natural, high-performing hair care products.
We also took the time to listen to our clients’ needs and what’s trending in the industry, so we created an online platform to enable them to order our exclusive products (Loma, Eufora, Kitoko, Affinage), as well as utilize online booking services, all from the comfort of their own home. In turn, we’ve simplified the booking process while also ensuring they continue to receive the best products they need.
