Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Goode.
Katie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started cosmetology school right after high school. My mom was a hairstylist and I think I just always knew that’s what I wanted to do. Due to my dad’s encouragement, after I Graduated hairdressing school I attended Endicott College to work towards my bachelor’s degree in business. I did this nights while I worked full time at the salon. I worked at a few different salons before my mom, Donna, and I decided to start our own business in 2008, I was 21 years old. We opened a small salon in downtown Andover and now 10 years later we are in a spot that is 5 times the size in our hometown Tewksbury, Ma. We like having a family business where the clients know everyone who works at the salon. Fortunately I was introduced to a company called Eufora shortly after we opened. They are an eco-friendly ingredient conscious brand with an amazing education program to support hairstylists and independent salons. I loved this company so much that I decided to become an educator with them. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be the professional stylist I am today without the education I’ve received from Eufora. I am continuously keeping up with my education and became and American Board Certified Haircolorist In 2017. We are celebrating our 10 year anniversary at Goode Salon in October and we are so thankful for all of the support our friends, family and clients have given us.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We fortunately did not face too many struggles in our journey thus far. Being a cosmetologist there is forever something new to learn and so keeping up with being current and relevant in the industry takes a lot of commitment.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Goode Salon – what should we know?
Goode Salon is family owned. We have a small staff and pride ourselves on quality work. We like to give a particular experience to our clients. We know that a good consultation and being able to teach our clients how to recreate their look at home is crucial. Being exclusive to Eufora products and Eufora color, we have the integrity of your hair in our best interest. Hair cutting is a specialty. A lot of salons don’t cater to men in particular and we have a large percentage of male guests as well as female guests. We also love going on site to style hair for weddings. It’s such an honor to be trusted as the beauty professional on a bride’s special day.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mom and dad have always been big supporters in anything I had a passion for. My mom always encourages me to follow my dreams and keep learning. I am so thankful for my clients who have been my cheerleaders in helping me build a clientele. We opened before social media was what it is today. I essentially built my clientele from referrals. Don Bewley, co-owner of Eufora was an advocate for our salon all the way from California. He always made the time to call and check in to see how everything was going and never hung up the phone without telling me to “say hi to mom”. He even sponsored a hole at our Golf Tournament fundraiser to support us. One of my best friends and coworker Jessica is my partner in crime. She and I have been working side by side for over 5 years now-learning together and supporting each other as hairstylists and friends. She plays a major role in our “dream team”.
