Today we’d like to introduce you to Karyn Hynd.
Karyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my massage career working on horses. I graduated from the University of Findlay with an Equine Studies degree and thought I wanted to train horses for a living. It turned into massaging horses for a living instead.
I received my Equine Myo-Therapy Certification in 1997 and massaged horses at several different barns while managing a cutting horse farm in North Carolina for a couple of years. Upon moving back to the Northeast, I was managing a North Shore farm and massaging horses. It took me almost 7 years to finally make it to Bancroft School of Massage Therapy in Worcester, MA to study human massage therapy where I graduated from in 2006. Since then my practice has slowly moved more toward working with people than horses.
In 2009, I attended a regional massage conference held by the AMTA, American Massage Therapy Association. It was there that I found my passion! Two of the many presenters there that weekend, James Waslaski and Whitney Lowe, changed my path and direction in the massage therapy industry. I was lucky to have signed up for each of their continuing education classes, and my focus went from regular massage therapy to more orthopedic and clinical massage therapy for pain and orthopedic conditions. I gained a whole new perspective and knowledge of how massage therapy and clinical reasoning would produce great results for the clients I work with.
Then in 2014, through social media, I began seeing posts about NeuroKinetic Therapy by founder David Weinstock. I was so intrigued by the posts and how this work was able to help people with long-standing pain, who had seen all kinds of doctors and specialists with little result. NKT was helping these people! I needed to know more and enrolled in NKT Level 1. The course was mind-blowing! It gave me a completely new outlook and perspective on how to work with the body, muscles, soft tissue and the nervous system.
What can I say, I have met many brilliant and talented bodyworkers, movement specialists, personal trainers, chiropractors, physical therapists and others working with the human body. The community that NKT has is awesome for knowledge, support and encouragement. I have completed all 3 levels and still need to certify Level 3.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am grateful and very blessed to be in business for myself. However, as everyone has, I have faced my share of challenges. Some met easily, others not so much. In this day and age, most small business owners are a maverick breed.
I face the same challenges as most: competing with large franchises, navigating the impact of the internet and social media on my business, ever-changing issues with regulations for business and the daily paperwork that goes with every business.
With all of that said, I love what I do and am fortunate to have wonderful support from my husband and my family as well as colleagues near and far.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Stable Hands Therapeutic Massage – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a licensed Massage Therapist, running my own practice, Stable Hands Therapeutic Massage. I believe that to be successful, I must continually gain knowledge of the human body to understand how I can help minimize my clients’ pain and allow them to live with as little discomfort as possible, while still allowing them to do the things they love…
For me, that encompasses my former studies in Orthopedic massage, studies on the impact of scar tissue in our bodies and my current passion, NeuroKinetic Therapy.
NeuroKinetic Therapy, or NKT as it is called, allows me to test muscle groups and pinpoint the cause of my clients’ pain. Once we establish the cause of the problem we can work together to resolve it and give them the relief they are looking for.
In my practice I strive above all to listen to my clients, to understand the challenges they deal with on a daily basis and I work to help them overcome their muscular discomfort. A part of that is to educate them about the type of bodywork I do and how it can help them.
In a field that has a huge amount of turn over, I’m proud to have spent the last 12 years in an industry that excites and motivates me. I am incredibly grateful for the clients that have sought me out and the client base I have developed.
My practice allows me to grow both personally and professionally while helping people along the way. I’d say that is a “Win, Win” situation! It doesn’t get any better!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to certify in NeuroKinetic Therapy Level 3 before year’s end and solidify my understanding and fluency as well as continuing to assist at NKT seminars where and when I am able. I am also working on a personal training certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
I will be pursuing more movement knowledge and have several courses in mind to continue learning more about the human body and human movement. It really never ends! The more I learn, the more I want to learn! The more I learn, the more people I can help.

In addition to Karyn being a very talented Massage Therapist she is also a very caring and thoughtful person. A few years ago when I had a problem with my horse, Karyn was right there financially supporting me by donating massage gift certificates that I could raffle. I had never met her but she heard of my dilemma and did not hesitate to offer help. So there are many sides to Karyn and I wanted you to hear about this one.

I wanted you to know that not only is Karyn a very talented massage therapist but she is also a very kind and thoughtful person.
