Meet Karly Snow of Snowscapes Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karly Snow.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My photography journey started in 2014 when my husband bought me my first pro series camera. I had always been interested in photography but never had the gear myself. Once I had all of the things I needed to make my vision a reality, everything took off!

I started slow, only photographing family and friends, but then in 2016, Snowscapes Photography was born! At the time, I was living and working in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My family has recently relocated to central Massachusetts, so now I’m working all throughout New England!

Photography is my passion and I feel so fortunate to be able to find consistent work as a photographer here.

Has it been a smooth road?
As I mentioned before, my family just relocated to Massachusetts from Pittsburgh, PA in June.

I had spent all of this time and effort establishing myself and my business in Pittsburgh and I got the majority of my jobs through word of mouth and from recommendations on social media, so I was really nervous to uproot everything that I had started to start again in a completely new place, where I had no connections.

Once I got to town, I really had to step outside of my comfort zone to promote my photography business and reach out to people in the community. Within a month, I had enough sessions on my calendar to keep me comfortably busy for my first few months.

Now that I’ve gotten the ball rolling, the inquiries keep coming and I’m probably busier now than I was before!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Snowscapes Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Snowscapes Photography is more than just a company to me, it’s really a passion project!

I’m a speech-language pathologist by trade, so photography wasn’t even my primary career for most of my adult life. Photography is so much fun for me, and I think everyone deserves to have beautiful photos of their families and of important milestones in their life, so I strive to keep my prices really affordable.

I don’t withhold photos from clients, and allow them to have the printing and sharing rights of their digital images. I am primarily a natural light (outdoor) photographer and I specialize in portrait photography. I love all different kinds of portrait sessions, but my favorite type is probably senior portraits or engagement sessions! There’s nothing I love more than delivering photo galleries that my clients love and will cherish forever.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Even though cell phone cameras continue to improve, I think there will always be a market for professional photographers! Especially for important events like bar-mitzvahs, engagements, weddings, etc.. I hope to be able to continue working as a photographer in coming years.

I’m always open to researching and trying new technology, so I’ll make sure that my business and my photography style can adapt to any big changes in the industry that are on the way!
