Kannan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Being much passionate about Indian Food, I finished my culinary graduation in India and I got an opportunity to work at Marriott Hotel in Newton, MA. I was very inspired to share my love for the food & culture of native India, so I have formed a great team of chefs to create a couple of Indian & Vegetarian restaurants. Recently, our talented team opened a classy restaurant & Bar in Wakefield, MA “Maya Indian Bar & Grill” which is now Yelp rated as #1 Restaurant in that area.
Has it been a smooth road?
It can never be a smooth road for the restaurant business, as you might know, 59% of restaurants fail within their first 3 years. There were a lot of struggles and challenges in setting up new restaurant which has a unique selling concept and a good team in providing ultimate service. Each restaurant I have setup has a unique concept to cover different clientele such as Family-Style, Fast Casual, Healthy style, Fine-Dining and Bar. My previous culinary experience in airline food industry helped me in setting up the process to maintain high quality in food and customer satisfaction which I think is the real key to my success in the restaurant business.

Our business is formed and run by a team of talented chefs and Manager who are really passionate about food Industry. Every chef owner takes care of each restaurant and we always believe Teamwork makes the Dreamwork. Our newly opened Maya Indian Bar and Grill at Wakefield serves Indian Food in a modern way with a lot of creative design in each menu items we serve. We are happy that from kids to adults love our food and we provide vegetarian & vegan option and also healthy sizzlers. We have a large bar where we serve Indian flavored Cocktails, Indian Beers, Draft beers and wines which can be paired with Indian food.
Maya is a unique Indian Restaurant where we serve special food like Bollywood Wings (special marinated Chicken wings cooked in Tandoori clay oven), Maya Scallops (scallops tossed in a chef’s special Mango Sauce) and Shrimp Balchao (Shrimp tossed in a fiery and tangy tomato sauce) and other unique dishes which is hard to find in any Indian Restaurant.
We don’t just serve tasty food but healthy food for our customer. The herbs and spices in our food have a lot of medicinal values for instance turmeric is an anti-cancer agent, Fenugreek seeds help in reducing blood glucose and we can add more to this list.
This really makes our customer visit again and again.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Wakefield is really great town to do small business. We got support from town management and also local communities. Actually, we are proud to say that customers are our real brand Ambassador who introduced us to near town friends and families. We feel if anyone wants to start a business, then our recommendation would be Wakefield.
