Meet Kaitlyn Burke of Kadence Arts in Central Boston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Burke.

Kaitlyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a musician, actress, arts manager, and composer who was born and raised in the Boston area. No one in my family had an interest in the arts, but music managed to draw me in at an early age! I went on to earn a B.A. in vocal performance from New York University, and perform with the Players Theatre, The York Theatre Company, and the Hudson Guild Theatre. I have acted on small independent films, and worked behind the scenes as a sound designer, props designer, and scenic carpenter. I served as Production Manager with Theatre Workshop of Nantucket for three years, and am now dedicated to bringing art experiences to the city of Boston, through my work as the General Manager of Kadence Arts, and as an individual artist.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Before discovering my love for music, I was an avid mathematician and maintained an active curiosity towards physics. I often struggled with my decision to study music. Eventually, I discovered that technical production drew from both disciplines, and find a way to integrate my love of math and science with the arts.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kadence Arts – what should we know?
Kadence Arts is a non-profit organization that works to create an active eco-system of art making and learning in and around Boston. We focus on music based performances that are interactive, experimental, and promote community building. We are extremely proud to have brought John Luther Adam’s “Inuksuit” to the Arnold Arboretum, an environmental, percussion piece designed to heighten or awareness of sights and sounds that surround us every day and to energize our experience of our own environment. Kadence Arts works with a mixture professionals, and emerging musicians, and community groups, using the city itself as an instrument.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My mother would say it’s that I am extremely stubborn! She may be on to something here…
