Today we’d like to introduce you to Kachina Fredricks.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kachina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I came to Boston to attend Emerson College and graduated in 2004 with a BFA in Dance/Theater. I stayed in Boston because I loved the city and met my husband (to-be, at the time) here. I started doing Pilates and instantly fell in love with it and the method. I taught for 7 years, then opened Pilates Back Bay in 2012. This June will be our 5 year anniversary. It is a powerful feeling to be able to do what I love for a living and share that love with others.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest struggle has been working to balance life running a studio and raising two young kids. Each one has its unique challenges and it’s important to find a way to give each the attention it needs to be successful and thrive.
Pilates Back Bay – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a boutique studio which specializes in giving each client a customized workout to fit their needs and goals. We only hold private lessons and small group classes with a maximum of three or four participants. I feel this is important to be able to keep each client safe and give them the opportunity to better their Pilates practice. I have an amazing group of experienced trainers who each offer something different for our clients.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There are many. I feel pride anytime I see change in a client who has worked so hard to make it happen. Pilates works– you just have to DO the work. It is incredibly empowering to hear them say their body has never felt better and that no workout has ever changed them the way Pilates has.
