Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Gilbert.
Justin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
For over 10 years we have provided DJ & MC services to literally hundreds of brides and grooms. Our story starts in Philadelphia where we began our wedding DJ Company. After making the decision to move to New England we relaunched our company based out of our home in New Hampshire. Since we relaunched our business in a state we average about 20 weddings per year.
Has it been a smooth road?
We have taken our business from one part of the country to another which is always hard. Owning a small business has its struggles especially with advertising and getting your name out there. Fortunately, we were able to help several brides and grooms our first year in business in New Hampshire and since there are business has been growing and growing. The biggest obstacle is getting brides and grooms to understand your value. There are a lot of want to be wedding DJs out there. Anyone can invest a few hundred dollars and call themselves a DJ. This is often very hard to explain to engage couples when they are trying to pinch pennies and save a few dollars. We provide a service that is unmatched and we are professionals because we have performed hundreds of weddings and learned over many years how to facilitate functions.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DJ Justin Gilbert story. Tell us more about the business.
Learning about a couples wants and needs is the foundation of our business. Unlike many DJ companies, we are not in a rush to have people sign contracts. We like to get to know you first. We want to make sure that we are the correct professional for each couple. We have even turned down weddings that we feel are not the right fit for us. We treat every wedding as if it were our own. Finally, what sets us apart from the competition is the planning that we do prior to every wedding. Two to three weeks before a wedding we sit down with the couple for several hours and go through an intense planning session. We run through name pronunciations of important people, we talk about song likes and dislikes, we go through timelines, we even talk about family members who may not get along so there are no awkward moments on a couples big day. This planning allows are events to go off without a hitch.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Wedding Entertainment is an industry that is constantly changing. From year to year you see songs that were popular for years fade out and new ones become popular. Equipment and lighting continue to get better year after year. Over the next several years we are hoping to grow our business, hopefully opening an office for brides and grooms to meet us at as well as expanding our services.
