Meet Joshua Boissonneault of The Classy Edge Barbershop in Pelham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Boissonneault.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From a big family, I am one of 14 children. I started out cutting my brothers hair at my house. Eventually, it turned into cutting my friends hair in the high school locker room before and after basketball practice until the janitor kicked me out. From there I started cutting hair out of my bedroom for all my friends and family. When I finished high school, I knew I wanted to become a barber. I researched all the schools in the area. I found New England School of Barbering in Concord, NH. I met David Caron who owns the school and immediately knew it was the perfect choice for me. Dave Caron is just an all around awesome guy and mentored me to be the best barber I could be. I finished barber school and I worked for him in his barbershop in downtown Concord, NH at American Barber Studios. I learned a lot in my first year of barbering working with some of the most talented barbers in the state. This is the oldest barbershop in New Hampshire. I knew one day I wanted to open my own shop. In 2012, I opened The Classy Edge Barbershop in my hometown of Pelham, NH. I slowly collected the resources I needed to start the shop prior to doing so. When I finally opened the shop, I started with one chair and myself as the only barber. I worked countless hours to grow my name in the town to potential clients who had not yet heard of me. The shop would fill with clients that would sit around all day and talk sports and make jokes that have us laughing all day while they sit and wait for a haircut. As the business grew, we added more barbers. Fast forward to today, six years later, we are proud to offer 12 barbers to our clients.

Has it been a smooth road?
Business wise I would say it has been a smooth road. I was somehow able to create a small town business where we see generations and generations of families come in to get a haircut or shave. I have always been very thankful for that. Clients have always been really good to us and we are grateful for that. Learning how to manage a shop and barbers as employees was where the road was bumpy. It’s a challenge to find the best fit of barbers for a shop like ours. We currently have the best barbers working for us currently. They are all super talented, hardworking, and positive minded. That’s what I love to see in a barber.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a barbershop that thrives on keeping the old school barber tradition. We specialize in hot towel, straight razor shaves. We are known as the town barbershop in Pelham, NH. We offer a welcoming and friendly, family atmosphere. We provide services to generations of family members. We have the ability to do all types of styles. We pride ourselves in keeping up with styles as they change, while also maintaining the ability to do classic styles, like a flat top. What sets us apart from other barbershops is that we have clients from all different age groups. We have seniors that sit in our chairs talking about old war time stories. Dads who bring their sons along for haircuts for the family. Toddlers growing out of our children’s cutting car to a chair as the years pass. Our most prideful moments are when we are able to provide services for our clients biggest moments in life, like graduations and weddings. We also set ourselves apart by keeping the old school barbershop feel. We are a large collector of barber antiques. Our shop is decorated with porcelain barber advertisements and rotating standing barber poles. Our usual Saturdays have Elvis music playing throughout the shop, clients sitting in our 1920’s porcelain antique barber chairs, with a wait area full of families of clients waiting in our antique shoe shine seat.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The best part about our city is we love the small town vibe that we have. Clients walk into the barbershop and immediately know others in the shop. Players from teams within our town walk in with parents and see coaches sitting in the chair. There is a constant positive vibe and we are a huge part within the community.
