Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Brett.
Born and raised on a tree farm in Barkhamsted Connecticut, Josh learned the value of hard work and investment at a very young age. Both Bankers, Josh’s parents left the corporate world behind with the desire to raise their children in an environment that promoted teamwork, persistence and self-sustained living.
At the age of eight, Josh had his first job on the farm carrying Christmas trees to customer’s vehicles. Over the next decade, as Josh’s jobs, responsibilities and involvement in the farm increased so did his desire to help people, his awareness of quality vs. quantity and the importance of believing in what you sell.
Upon graduating from Northeastern University with a degree in Economics, Josh merged his academia with his upbringing when he embarked on his real estate career, working two years as a rental agent in the Allston/Brighton area while migrating into the Jamaica Plain sales market.
Josh’s strong desire to protect and advise his clients has served Boston-area residents well over the past 11 years. In 2010, Josh combined his personal values with his keen real estate knowledge when he purchased a multi-family home in Jamaica Plain for use as both a personal residence and an investment. Equipped with experience from both sides of the table, combined with his unique background and ability to identify niche opportunities, Josh is an invaluable asset in the real estate industry.
When Josh is not working with, or on behalf of his clients, he can be found enjoying the great outdoors kayaking, hiking, snowboarding, traveling or camping. Josh currently resides in Jamaica Plain with his wife.
Why I formed the Nextdoor Realty Team and how we are doing after 1 year:
In December 2016, I formed the Nextdoor Realty Team at Unlimited Sotheby’s International Realty with Susan Scheele in order to maintain top-level customer service while rapidly growing in a competitive market. Given we owe our business’ growth to the loyalty of our clients and their referrals, our constant dedication to servicing our clients’ needs and delivering exceptional results is our #1 focus above growth and volume of sales. It is much more important to us that the Nextdoor Realty Team truly cares for our clients while paying particular attention to every detail of each client and every transaction, than grow.
While excelling in our customer service standards throughout our first-year in 2017 the Nextdoor Realty Team wrote over 15 million dollars of sales. We are proud to have climbed higher in our ranking within the top 10 agents in Jamaica Plain on both Yelp and Zillow. We anticipate our increased efforts in 2018 will get the market’s attention.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The legend is true, that it never really feels like ‘work’ when you are passionate about what you do. We experience this first hand. I love when our clients and our team members call me for guidance as we can help them before they act and that is what is truly rewarding. It is a blessing to have such wonderful clients and colleagues to work with.
I’ve been trained to focus on improving our daily challenges. When first licensed and during my first 3 years as a full-time Realtor, 2007 – 2009, it was a struggle to find active clients.
2010 – 2011 – It was challenging to get sellers a sales price they were happy with. Simultaneously it was a struggle to find my buyers quality financing.
2012 – 2015 – Largest challenge was the lack of listing inventory for buyers to select from.
2016 – Biggest challenge was a lack of free time due to joyfully and relentlessly servicing the growing number of clients who were referred to me.
2017 – Formed Nextdoor Realty Team with Susan Scheele, where the challenges initially shifted to implementing and improving our systems for demanding self-imposed client service standards. Susan is amazing to work with and we owe an equal amount of credit to her for Nextdoor Realty Team’s growing success. After a couple months our systems were well refined, implemented and producing even smoother results than anticipated. The power of Teamwork is impressive!
January 2018 – I anticipate our most prevalent challenges of the year will be competing for market share. There are a lot of exceptional agents in and around Jamaica Plain who we work with closely, are genuinely friendly with while also competing for the same market share. It is a lot of fun!
