Meet Joseph Coluntino Jr., Esq. of Joseph A. Coluntino Jr., Attorney at Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph A. Coluntino Jr., Esq. .

Joseph, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up In Stoneham MA and decided to attend Northeast Metro Tech Vocational High School. While in high school I was enrolled in the school’s electrical program and worked as an electrician throughout college and law school. Going to a vocational high school gave me a tremendous understanding of the business world at a young age, and the realization that my body and mind were my number one asset. I always wanted to be an attorney and kept slowly taking the necessary steps towards that goal until it was finally achieved. After law school I decided to participate in an extensive internship with the Suffolk County DA’s office. While working at the DA’s office I learned a tremendous amount about the criminal practice of law, however I never really felt like it was my calling within the legal field. My first job out of law school was with an attorney in Reading, MA, and that is where I truly began my legal education. I worked on Bankruptcy cases, foreclosure defense, and real estate transactions. I quickly found that I had a passion for foreclosure defense and real estate law. Looking back on my days working as an electrician there were a lot of similarities to the practice of real estate law. Customer service is at the forefront of both professions, and hard work pays off tremendously. Seeing that I have an extensive background in construction, real estate law was a natural field for me to practice in. My construction background helps me provide insight to clients from a standpoint that most attorneys cannot. The process is ongoing, but every day we gain knowledge, experience, and continue building our brand.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
First I need to say without the support of my unbelievable wife, family, friends, clients, and the best paralegal an attorney could ask for I wouldn’t be where I am. The process to any form of success whether wealth, health, or love, is never easy. I have had to work and fight for everything I have earned and that will never end. It takes a 10x mindset and a commitment to the process if you want to achieve the internal goals you’ve set for yourself. In a world of Instagram, Facebook, and other social media outlets, it’s easy to become discouraged when your hard work isn’t paying off immediately like it may appear for your “online friends”. It’s my belief that if it’s easy you’re not trying hard enough or you’re not pushing yourself enough. We need to make mission statements for ourselves and stick to the mission at hand. It’s when we allow ourselves to have an out that failure succeeds. We will all fall down, and it’s even ok to sit on the ground when you’ve fallen to reflect for a moment, but we need to get back up and stick to the mission. A quote that I once read stated “If you burn the boats, you’ll take the island” and this couldn’t be more true. If there’s no second option, the first HAS TO succeed. It wasn’t until my traditional education ended that I truly started to educate myself. In business, relationships, and life you need to be educating yourself on as many topics as you can. I am constantly pushing myself to read and educate myself on the new topics in real estate, law, and other self-improvement areas. I guess that’s a long-winded way to say NO it’s a struggle daily to work on myself, to continue to improve as an attorney, and human, but the reward is worth every ounce of energy.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Joseph A. Coluntino Jr., Attorney at Law – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We’re a full service real estate law firm with office locations in Boston’s Back Bay and Reading, MA. Like most real estate attorneys, we will close anywhere, at any time, and do whatever it takes to get the deal closed correctly and on time. What sets us apart from other traditional real estate attorneys is that we handle a number of foreclosure prevention strategies. Typically, someone in need of foreclosure prevention is a homeowner that is a number of months behind on their mortgage payments. Homeowners have a number of different options and we help provided winning solutions, or we refer the client to an attorney that may better suit the client’s specific needs. The most common strategy that we use in foreclosure defense are short sales. Typically, someone that is completing a short sale wants out of their property and wants to avoid any personal liability on a deficiency to their lender.  In a short sale we’re working with the homeowner and their realtor to get the best offer from a potential buyer to present to the homeowner’s lender. Once we get an offer the real work begins, we work towards getting the lender to agree to the short sale. The lender is essentially allowing a homeowner to sell their property for less than what the lender is owed. We typically always get the deficiency waived by the lender, and in certain cases we even get relocation money for the homeowner. This option also has less of an impact on a homeowner credit report than a foreclosure or bankruptcy would. We partner with real estate agents throughout MA to negotiate their short sales at no cost to the homeowner or realtor. Once a new file comes in the attorney that initially handles the file will see it through to its completion. Handling files this way helps ensure that our clients never get bumped around from one attorney to the next, and then from one paralegal to the next throughout the transaction. We’re typically the last person a client deals with in a transaction, so if that client was referred by a realtor, loan officer, or another referral source we want to make sure the last leg of the transaction is as pleasant as possible.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I want to keep growing the referral base and continue serving the community the best I can. I want to build systems that will allow the business to run more efficiently so that I can focus on training younger attorneys and paralegals to grow the business to a level that will survive in any real estate market. In the future I hope to be able to show others the process I have followed to allow them to be successful in their respective fields as well.
