Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Figueroa.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My name is Jose but artist name is best known as “Fig” I started singing at the age of 10 years old! “Trying to be baby usher” then by the age of 14 years old, I actually decided to give the music thing a go and recorded my very song “do you really love me! By the age 16 I was developing a thing that every young artist goes Through and that was a voice change. By the age 18, I stop singing for a while to work on my voice and see how I can develop my voice to become a better artist! In 2016, I got a call for from my great friend which I consider a brother to me “Michael Lewis” also known as the moglidajungleboy, calls me and told me it’s time to get back in the studio! After so long, not being in the studio I was nervous and overwhelmed because I haven’t been in the studio for so long but filled with excitement, because this is something I loved, kept me out of trouble and released me from stress.
Please tell us about your art.
When I create I don’t like to be bother much. I like to sit alone in quite places, so I can take a minute to myself to listening to the whole instrumental at least twice. Then the third time I usually try to freestyle because it actually really helps my writing process, mumble out a few words to try to get me going as I write lyrics to my song! I also like writing in a third person point of view, for an example I wrote I song for my cousin who is currently suffering from a rare lung disease called “Myers Syndrome” now my cousin is unable to speak anymore! So, my cousin was my inspiration to write a song of his story and wrote the song as if I was him! Song is called “Story”
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
What I think about artist condition today is that a lot of artist are hungry! “Meaning a lot of artist today they put a lot of work into their craft! What’s harder today is that us artist don’t get that much support for others or from other artists! In the recent years and from other cities other artist support one another and they build something to expand their brands their craft, fans and views! A city like ours I feel like we need to help each other and support each other show more love to one another because we all have the same dream!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
