Meet Jose de la Rosa of Guardian Healthcare in Jamaica Plain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose de la Rosa.

Jose, CEO, and co-founder of Guardian Healthcare was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He came to the United States via New York City in 1988 and later settled in Boston.

He attended Northeastern University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance. After graduation, he accepted a loan officer position at Citizens Bank, helping many people achieve the homeownership dream. He participated in many homeownership initiatives and worked closely with non-profit organizations like City Life/Vida Urbana, Urban Edge, and ESAC Boston to promote homeownership knowledge to many Boston residents. Jose also joined Fleet Bank/Bank of America where he closed as much as $30 million in mortgage loans, mostly to first-time homebuyers.

In 2008, after learning that many people in the Boston area did not have access to healthcare services, he launched Guardian Healthcare, a home care agency that provides healthcare services to people in their own homes, closing the cultural competency gap by providing bilingual nurses, therapists and home health aides to many people who otherwise were ignored by traditional healthcare providers. Most recently, Jose and Guardian Healthcare introduced Family Caregivers, an adult foster care program that provides training and support to family members taking care of sick and/or disabled adult relatives.

Since opening Guardian Healthcare, Jose has completed several healthcare studies such as Suffolk University’s Moakley Center for Public Health Management Emerging Leaders Program, earning an advanced certificate in-home care management and the California Association for Health Services at Home Advanced Certified Home Care Executive certification. Most recently Jose completed the Goldman Sachs/Babson College 10,000 Small Business Program certificate of entrepreneurship, and has received certifications in Leadership and Influence, as well as business analytics,  expanding the knowledge of the healthcare industry and the solutions  needed to serve those who need it most.

In 2016, Guardian Healthcare was widely recognized for its quality service and success. Jose was the recipient of many national awards and recognition including U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Minority Small Business of the Year; Boston Business Journal’s 50 Most Influential Business Leaders in Massachusetts; and FORTUNE’s Top 100 Inner City Businesses.
