Meet Jonathan Young of Pipe Dream Brewing in Londonderry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Young.

Jonathan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Joining the Marine Corps at a young age I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in CA around 2007 when the beer mecca was blowing up in San Diego area. I went from drinking Bud Light to being introduced to all kinds of craft beer. I quickly fell in love, spending hundreds on all kinds of different craft beers one weekend I looked at a buddy of mine an told him we should just start making this ourselves! We would save some much money. Well, we really didn’t save anymore at all but my passion for brewing took over! I loved cloning recipes and before I knew it I was creating my own recipes. Brewing as much as I could while serving my country.

2012 I was honorably discharged as an E-5, after a successful combat tour I decided I wanted to move back home an pursue something else. I went back to school for a little while until I got a job as a federal corrections officer in Devan’s mass. While that was short lived I was continuing my brewing ways. Fine tuning all my recipes, creating new exciting beers. I woke up one day and said myself I was only getting older… I needed to react..  Just do it… take the chance of opening a brewery… At first, I was kicking butt. But I quickly realized there was no way I could do this by myself. I just did not have the capital. In comes John Batcheler. He overheard I was more than just thinking of opening a brewery, he asked if he could become a part of this adventure.

Without delay, we began moving forward with all the paperwork. Found a great warehouse Off Harvey Rd in Londonderry NH. When the name I came up with was Pipe Dream Brewing… It was a dream. A pipe dream… Roughly 1 year after meeting John, Pipe Dream was open. Little over a year of being open our business was blowing up! Thoughts of expansion were quickly becoming a topic of conversation. Now sitting at about a year and half we have plans to buy the building and is already expanding! The new brew house is being built as we speak with an additional 5000 sq. feet being added to our current brewery. That’s the short version I guess. I’m just a 29-year-old kid that had a dream… Never thought this is what it would turn out to be… I’m now living the pipe dream. It’s freaking amazing. Cheers

Has it been a smooth road?
Red tap everywhere with the state the Feds the Town Capital is always a struggle. Upscaling my homebrew recipes from 5 gallons to 70 gallons was hard. Getting the beer to be just as good, if not, better than my homebrew days. Everything had to change. Never ran a business before so learning that has had its ups down. When you open a brewery like we did. Doing everything yourself. (Except Electrician/plumbing or basically anything you need a permit for) I wasn’t a brewer I was a painter a demo man, sheetrock/plumber/electrician… List goes on.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Pipe Dream Brewing story. Tell us more about the business.
Pipe dream… I’m a kid who served his country proudly. Combat tour. Came home an literally opened my American Dream! My Pipe Dream. We brew craft beer right here in the brewery. We have a tap room you can see an smell everything we are doing. We have a Cali vibe, beach vibe. Reggae bumping sports games playing on the TVs. We offer 11 beers at once every day with a rotating line weekly. From a “peanut butter chocolate stout” to our “Naked 3 Sum IPA” an everything in between. We through a party every single day!
