Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan White.
Jonathan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved out to California for a few years in 1990 and got into the mortgage business in 1993. I tried to network with everyone I met to build a book of business, but realized most people in CA were transients and I didn’t have much success. I convinced myself that if I could move back to Boston and call everyone I knew since Kindergarten, I would be successful. Turns out I was correct.
I’ve been in the business for about 24 years and have owned Blue Door Mortgage for about 11 years. We are residential Mortgage Brokers licensed in all of Massachusetts and most of our business is from our previous clients. We love what we do and are consistently ranked as some of the top mortgage brokers in MA and across the country.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
During the financial crisis in 2008, it was tough to be a mortgage broker after all of the regulations were created but it also filtered out a lot of the mortgage professionals who were in the business for the wrong reasons. Before that time, anyone could be hired by a mortgage company with no experience and no accountability. Now all mortgage brokers need to be fully licensed at both the federal and state levels and pass background and credit checks. That is a good thing obviously.
Blue Door Mortgage – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Blue Door Mortgage is a residential mortgage broker licensed in Massachusetts and located in Newton Centre, MA. We are proud to help our clients finance their homes with some of the most competitive rates and programs available and then have them tell all of their friends, family and co-workers about us. We are proud that all of business is referred to us from the clients we have already done business with and as a mortgage broker, we have access to about 25 different lenders.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am always proud to be ranked as one of the top 1% mortgage brokers in the country.
