Meet Jolisa Lewis of J. Lew Photography in Dorchester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jolisa Lewis.

Jolisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a 30 year old female from Dorchester Ma. I have been doing photography on and off for about 10years just taking gigs and doing projects here and there. Because of work full time it took a lot of my time to really focus on Photography. I have been told and I feel it that I have the eye for photos and that I should really put more into my passion. I started taking photos with a small vacation camera at after parties, which then turned in to going to events that the radio station at the time I was with, I’d be their photographer. From then to taking photos in the clubs. That fell through quick because it’s not what I wanted to do. I’m more into fashion and advertising photography. I only do personal parties now and photo shoots and things of that nature. Now here in 2018 my brand is still growing and ppl ask all the time are you still taking pictures? Yes I am! And we make magic. I have started a project called Established Melanin off of a whim! A random idea to spotlight women of color who are entrepreneurs just like myself who need and can always use an open forum to broadcast what it is that they do, what they can offer and brings us women together. With this project, I plan to continue to bring women of color in these small groups to bond and mix and mingle amongst one another and network. I eventually want to have a huge networking event with all the ladies I have featured and bring everyone together in one room. Something really positive for my city!

Has it been a smooth road?
Everything has it’s up and downs, you can never really see success without some form of downside or struggle. It’s all about if you’re willing to still give it your all. For me no it hasn’t been smooth, from investing my last into equipment, to reaching out to those who want to teach me a few things to then being self-taught. You have moments where you want to give up on your passion but you will always have someone in your ear like don’t give up! It’s always good to have someone in your corner that can give it to you how it is.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with J. Lew Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a female Photographer that has a passion to capture beautiful images and make memories for others. I would say I’m really known for not only my photography skills but my networking skills, as I know of a lot of people. I enjoy building with others and building my brand as well. Right now I specialize in fashion photography and growing with advertisement, that’s where my passion is right now but I can offer it all! As a company all around, I’m known for the work I have put in that meets every customer’s needs. Being set apart from others I feel for myself is what I have to offer no one person’s work is the same, no one person energy is the same, I’m here to make magic and make people comfortable.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about my City is that there is SO MUCH talent out here that you wouldn’t really understand! From photographers, Djs, artist, designers, hair stylist, cooks you name it this city has it! What I don’t like is that in the city of Boston we don’t come together as much as we should! You can go to another state and see how they work together, and its dope! Here and everyone knows it Boston can and has to do better we need to come together collectively and be great all around!

Great read!!! J Lew is good people and definitly agree with the last comment about the city coming together collectively. There is too much talent in Boston or MA rather that is not known to the rest of the world yet. We working tho.
