Meet John Hargrave of Media Shower in One Beacon Street

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Hargrave.

John, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Started my career during the dot-com boom, working at a technology publisher called Ziff-Davis. We published computer magazines like PC Magazine and Computer Shopper. Being at a technology publisher, during the technology revolution, was one of the most exciting times of my career. We were building the first websites. We were inventing publishing on the internet.

I never thought I’d be lucky enough to live through a second technology revolution — but if anything, this time its better. We are living through the blockchain revolution, where there is more innovation, more talent, and more money than the dot-com heyday. And it is moving SO MUCH FASTER.

Our company Media Shower provides consulting services for companies starting new blockchain projects, our team of analysts make strategic recommendations on how to launch, market, and attract investors to their blockchain.

We also have an investor-focused division, providing analysis of new blockchain projects to investors of all sizes, helping them make smart investment decisions. Through our investor publications, training, and events, we explain blockchain investing in “plain English.”

We truly are living in one of the most exciting times in history. When all is said and done, the Blockchain Revolution will make the Enlightenment look like a picnic lunch.

Has it been a smooth road?
The nature of the blockchain space is that it moves so fast that lots of experimentation is necessary. One of our founding values is agility, so whenever we take on a new project, we live by the mantra, “Don’t get it perfect, just get it done.”

In the old days, companies do all their research and analysis for several months before they decide whether to start a new project. The new model is agile development: if you have an idea, just launch it and measure it. If it gets traction, continue to iterate and improve; if not, kill it quickly.

Here’s an example. We recently had the idea to make short two- or three-minute videos explaining blockchain concepts to investors. We talked with video producers, who all wanted to bring in camera crews and set up a professional studio. Instead, we shot the first batch in a conference room with a cellphone, and posted them to LinkedIn. Almost immediately, people said, “These are great! But you need to get a tripod.” Or, “I’m sharing these! But can you talk more about this topic?”

Thomas Edison said, “Whenever you run into trouble, experiment until you get to the very bottom of the problem.” That’s agile business development, and that’s how we overcome challenges and struggles every day.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
For companies, we provide consulting services for new blockchain projects. Our team of analysts make strategic recommendations on how to launch, market, and attract investors to your blockchain.

For investors, we provide analysis of new blockchain projects, helping them make smart investment decisions. Through our investor publications, training, and events, we explain blockchain investing in “plain English. “

For the blockchain community, we provide an ecosystem of connections and opportunities through our Boston-based blockchain coworking space, Genesis Block.

We are creating a model company in the blockchain space, and we are helping build the blockchain ecosystem into a model for humanity.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Boston is the greatest city for blockchain companies, because we have the combination of TECHNICAL, FINANCIAL, and EDUCATIONAL opportunities.

Blockchain is complicated, because it combines both the financial and technical worlds — the suits and the hoodies. In Silicon Valley, where I visit frequently, they are all about the technology, but they’re not as strong on the financials. In New York, they have the financial, but not the technical.

In Boston, we have both the suits and the hoodies, AND this ecosystem of hundreds of colleges that are constantly feeding new talent into the blockchain ecosystem — which is what’s most needed right now.

I speak about blockchain all over the world, and I can tell you that Boston is really special. The Blockchain Revolution begins here.
