Meet Jill Lazzaro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Lazzaro.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in a small town in Southern NH. I Studied visual/fashion Merchandising at Lasell College in Newton, MA. From there, I took a job at Filene’s Department store doing all of the visual displays and mannequins. I took a little time off to have a family, I have a wonderful husband and two great children. During my time as a stay at home Mom, I took up a hobby in painting furniture. I love taking old pieces and giving them a new life.

I started selling my pieces at a local group shop. After five years of doing so, I decided to branch out on my own and open my first retail location called Flip by Silly Jilly Designs located on the Milford Oval in NH. Fast forward another five years, I now have my second store location in Peterborough, NH. In both shops, you’ll find repurposed furniture, locally made art, and gifts, custom-made furniture created by my father and farmhouse style home decor.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is taking old, run down pieces of furniture and redoing them giving them a new breath of life. The paint of my choice is Bungalow 47 or Junk Gypsy Chalk Paint. I’ve created hundreds of pieces over the last ten years and have loved doing it. It’s so rewarding seeing the finished result.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I’d say success is having something that you created and put some love into sell and be admired and appreciated.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My pieces are found at my two retail locations – 139 Union Square Milford, NH and 28 Grove Street Peterborough, NH.
