Meet Jeremy Stone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Stone.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Makeup has always been a passion of mine from as back as I can remember. Doing makeup and coming from a small southern RI town was not necessarily what a young man should be doing but… I loved it. It wasn’t until I went off to college to begin a career in architecture that I realized what I really wanted to do was pursue a career in makeup artistry. I was 18 at the time and not really sure about where I was going with it but I ventured on and really established myself as a creative artist. I’ve been blessed with jobs that have allowed me to travel and see things I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. From fashion shows in Japan and across the US, to magazine covers and fashion spreads, to celebrities, I feel like I’ve done so much but also it’s just the tip of the iceberg! I have sooo many more ideas I can’t wait to share with the world.

Please tell us about your art.
So I am primarily a makeup artist however I do style hair and do pencil drawings as well. My drawings are mainly portraits or of Models from photo shoots that I’ve styled in the past. Drawing has really become something that isn’t just a fun pastime but I also found that people want to buy it! I’ve sold quite a few drawings so far and it pushes me and helps me develop my skills as a makeup artist. I think about contrast, shading, blending, the different planes of the face, texture…I don’t just think ‘what’s trending?’ I think about how to enhance features in a way that are most appealing to the client. It’s not only about what I do but how I make that person feel. Makeup is an art form that is so temporary. You apply it, wear it around, and wash it off. It’s creating looks that will make a lasting impression whether through memory or photography that interests me. It seems like such a superficial thing but it’s amazing how much the way we look on the outside impacts how we feel on the inside. That’s part of the reason why I love doing Bridal makeup. I’m creating a look for literally one of the most important days in a person’s life. Photos that will be cherished, posted over and over, shared by many. There’s nothing better than getting a follow up email from a bride who can’t stop thinking about how amazing she get of her wedding day.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
I think if you are passionate about your craft and love what you do, don’t ever give up! Keep learning new techniques and pushing yourself to try new things. This is important in the makeup industry as its constantly changing. There are new brands launching all the time, new trends, new techniques, new products…it’s important to stay relevant and learn about as much you can.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I’m so glad you asked this!! Right now I am currently setting up a makeup studio in Providence, RI. I recently partnered with a good friend of mine, Alexa Cach from House of Cach (www.houseofcach.com) who designs and makes the most innovative custom jewelry, and we’re creating an amazing space that will really be something you have to see! I am still going to be doing a lot of work on the road (doing shoots, destination weddings, etc.) but I am so happy to be able to offer a truly unique space and experience at the studio. The studio is located at 326 Carpenter Street, Providence, RI, 02909. Because I am on the road frequently it will be mainly by appointment. We haven’t started promoting the space yet so the more people that know the better! Please feel free to share with your family and friends.
