Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Moss.
Jeremy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My mom is also a financial advisor with Ameriprise. When I was talking with her about job opportunities, I learned a lot more about her career and the impact that she had on her clients. She told me that if I wanted to get into the business, Doug Gage, one of the top national advisors at Ameriprise, was the person to meet.
I started working with him and his team and quickly knew it would be a great match. Not only is Doug a great advisor, but he is also a great mentor. After obtaining my required licenses, I began shadowing Doug and getting to know his clients. After a few years of training, I started taking on my own clients and have been building my business ever since.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. My biggest struggle is changing the assumption that financial planning is only for those who are wealthy or close to retirement. In reality, the sooner people set financial goals and have a plan to reach them, the more successful they can be. To demonstrate the value to prospective clients, I do my best to be straightforward and honest with them about what I do and how I can help them.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The GW Group specializes in comprehensive financial planning and asset management. The unique aspect of this is that we review the entire financial picture for our clients – cash flow, debt consolidation, insurance planning, employer benefits, education planning etc. – as well as manage investments.
This allows us to help clients understand the choices they are making rather than just telling them what to do. Many people that I meet believe financial advisors are for the wealthy or baby boomers. My clients cover every age group and lifestyle range. I have clients with a $5,000 Roth IRA and clients worth several million dollars.
I believe in helping anyone who is looking for advice and ensuring that the value that I bring is worth more than the fees I charge.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been passionate about sports and trying to bring the best out of myself and the people around me. I played football and basketball my entire life and worked with the football team at the University of Michigan. These hobbies have stuck with me as I continue to play in competitive leagues around Boston and have also picked up golf over the last few years.
More recently, I began coaching a varsity high school team in Cambridge. I love being a part of the community and helping these young men prepare for college, both on and off the court. The skill set that I have developed from coaching translates well into my career, as many of my clients consider me their “financial coach.”
