Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerel DeFrancesco.
Jerel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started on Newbury Street in the early 1990’s, I was about 20 years old. I worked as a hair stylist assistant at a very high-end salon, where I received all my initial training and earned my own chair. I also was fortunate to have trained in Europe.
After a couple of years working as a stylist, I opened my own hair salon on Newbury Street with a business partner which was an 11-year venture. It was then time to move on and I started Jerel@119. I’ve been here at this location for 12 years.
Jerel @119 is a small warm welcoming salon with all my original stylist, many of whom I grew up with on Newbury Street.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Newbury Street has friendly competition (12 hair salons on my city block)
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jerel@119 Hair Studio – what should we know?
We specialize in all hair services. We also do manicures and pedicures.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve had much support from my very first job in a hair salon, the owner there groomed and fine-tuned me. Also, I’ve had other salon owners that gave me advice along the way.
