Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Edmunds.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I received my bachelor’s degree in business from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA. For the next decade, I spent my time dedicated to moving up the corporate ladder and was quite successful. Upon vacationing with my sister, I was treated to my very first massage. When we left I told my sister, “Someday, I’ll be doing massage.” When asked why, I replied, “If I can make someone feel the way I feel now, I can’t imagine anything I’d rather do.” A promotion and 2 years later would find me feeling unsatisfied in my work and I decided that the corporate life was no longer for me. I left my job and began to make the vision I shared with my sister a reality.
I graduated from North Eastern Institute for Whole Health in Manchester, NH. Once I began my studies in massage, I realized that I had little idea of the many possibilities massage therapy had to offer. For the first time in my life school was exciting and I enjoyed all of my classes. I found that as my studies went on I became passionate about devoting my time to those who are ill and in need of massage therapy for medical reasons. I also enjoy the variety of working with people who need massages simply for stress relief. This was the main reason I turned to massage for years during my time in the corporate world. Especially enjoys helping others in the same way I was once helped myself.
I have a real compassion for the type of attention that people need and deserve and seldom give to themselves. Massage has become a very important part of my life and I know that helping others through massage therapy is where I truly belong.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a self-employed business owner, I find the biggest challenge is wearing all the hats. From house cleaning to laundry to paying the bills AND oh. Being a massage therapist. In all seriousness, no obstacle is insurmountable. At the end of the day, it’s worth it all.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jennifer Edmunds Massage – what should we know?
I am a massage therapist. I specialize in therapeutic and deep tissue massage, although, I can work with a lighter touch for clients who prefer less pressure. Generally, clients refer their friends to me for my deep work. I also practice pregnancy massage, oncology massage, pediatric massage and even more specific, massage for children who are on the spectrum.
Since opening my doors in April 2010, I proudly say that my business has doubled. I attribute this success to being recognized as an upstanding business in the community.
My availability sets me apart from other therapists. Massage therapists have to work when others do not. Folks want to see me after their 9-5 is over. In addition to weekdays, I schedule appointments 3 nights a week and Saturdays.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Nothing makes me happier than making other peoples’ aches, pains, and stresses go away. When you feel good, I take pride in that. Each day I go to work smiling because I love what I do.
