Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Walker Wall.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I fell into hiring and onboarding while I was working my way through graduate school. It was never something that I saw myself doing. It was a job that allowed me to pay my bills and take courses at night, but I loved it right away. The best part was meeting new people, hearing their enthusiasm for their work, and finding the right people to bring into the role. I served on an Affirmative Action Committee, was solicited to serve on multiple search committees, and even worked to develop an onboarding process for our new hires.
Once I finished school, I went to work in research, but I missed the kind of work that I was doing before. I started to help friends write cover letters and edit resumes. It was so fun for me to help people tell their story and communicate their skill set, but it seemed really challenging for other people. I decided to see if I could create a business to help people take the next step in their career – and I never looked back.
Four years later, I’m busier than ever. I now work with people one-on-one, small group workshops, and even turned my process into a digital course that people can work through on their own.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been so many challenges!
When you’re running a business, there is always something that needs your attention. At first, it’s scary to put yourself out there and make the investment in your business. Once you get traction, managing the growth and direction of the business is a whole new kind of challenge. While I had a ton of experience with the job search process, I had no business experience.
It’s been a learning process for sure, but that’s one of my favorite things about it. What’s worked me for me is being consistently connected to the Work Wonders Community, prioritizing my client experience (most of my business comes through referrals), and collaborating with other business owners and blogs in the Boston area.
You’ll make mistakes and you’ll spend time and money on things that won’t work. The important thing is to keep going.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Work Wonders Coaching and Consulting – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a career strategist and coach and I help people take their next steps in work and life by streamlining the job search process to tame overwhelm, confusion and burn out.
When people are unhappy at work, it creeps into all areas of their lives. My clients are busy people with demanding jobs and other obligations. Their success depends on maximizing the time and energy they have and that’s what I help them do.
I’m most proud of the people that I work with. When my clients go through my process, they are more confident in their abilities, can easily communicate that value to potential employers, and learn to better manage their time and energy.
Being able to leave a bad job means people are happier with their work – which is great – but I love that my clients get to live better lives, too. They’re able to spend more time with friends and families, volunteering, pursuing creative hobbies and traveling. Changing your job has the potential to change your life!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! As my client roster continues to grow, I am looking forward to creating new opportunities to work with me, including retreats and group programs, so that I can provide even more people with the tools that are necessary for career change and growth. We’re also planning on offering more digital and self-paced courses, as well.
I’m also hosting twice monthly workshops for free via Facebook Live.
