Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Bayreuther, Pete Bayreuther.
Jen, Pete, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Jen and I both have entrepreneurial backgrounds and inclinations, from family business legacies to our own small ventures. We met on the swim team at college and quickly settled on the North Shore after getting married. Jen is a registered occupational therapist and I have worked in various non-profit fundraising positions; we always had projects going that were outlets for creativity and skills that are important to us.
It was, however, bringing home each of our 3 daughters (Hannah 6, Olivia 4, Linnea 2) that successively solidified our dream and desire to own a business that allowed us to be home together, doing life together in all spheres. The other catalyzing event for us was losing Jen’s dad, Allen, to cancer in 2015 – his life became an inspiration to us to invest more of the precious time we have in our family, our daughters, and we started LuLaRoe in his memory in May of 2016 (I was setting up some of the details of the business from our L&D room just before Linnea, our 3rd, was born!)
We’re now almost 2 years in and because of LuLaRoe have been able to realize some wonderful dreams for our family. We’re both home full-time, homeschooling our girls, running our business and taking care of our customers and community in ways we never thought possible.
We are continually running fundraisers for local and national causes that are near and dear to our customers’ hearts and our own. “Simple business principles faithfully applied” is one of our go-to phrases as we are continually improving our work, looking to innovate, and running our business more efficiently and effectively. Our goal is to serve our family, our customers, and our community, and we are excited to see what lies ahead!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Learning how to run a social retail business meant/means that we needed/need to transition from using social media as a way to post here-and-there life updates to a platform that can be used for community building around shared values and purposes. There is an endless amount to learn and implement – finding focus is extremely challenging!
Perhaps one of the biggest challenges in retrospect was starting a business at the same time as bringing our third daughter into the world! We were managing two “newborns” and got through on a lot of coffee (home roasted by Pete!) and a tremendous support network of family and friends.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Jen and Pete, LuLaRoe Independent Fashion Consultants story. Tell us more about the business.
We are Jen and Pete and we specialize in social retail sales. We are Independent Fashion Consultants selling stylish, affordable, and comfortable LuLaRoe clothing. Our customers and community know us for bringing a tremendous amount of fun, kindness, and authenticity to the experience of purchasing clothing online, primarily through live sales on Facebook. We create a space for people to be real and to be uplifted, where sharing the highs, lows, and regulars of life are encouraged.
We stand out from the field because of how closely we work as a team; we are redefining the retail experience for our customers, inviting them to be part of our family story through something as simple as buying a new dress for work. It gives us tremendous joy to see our customers make connections with each other and turn those connections into the authentic community, asking advice and support of each other.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We’d gently put forward that luck hasn’t played any role: we believe that all things, good or bad, happen for a reason, whether or not we ever understand why. Our faith in Jesus gives us the reassurance that we’re not subject to the whims of chance. We are, therefore, thankful for the many opportunities we’ve had and work to hold these things loosely, serving others with our gifts and resources.
