Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Diamond.
Jeff, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Left a 30 year Executive Management career position in the corporate world and restarted a new career in the French antique import business. Grew the small upstart Company into one of New England’s premier high end furniture and decorative objects entities with 3 retail businesses and making buying trips throughout France every 8 to 10 weeks over a 30 year timeframe. Provided high end restoration and transformation services to antique clientele and retrofitted imported pieces to accommodate client personal preferences. Retired from the antique import aspect of the 3 years ago and transitioned the restoration component of the antique business into a 9 person major force in furniture repair and restoration.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No new business entity is every entirely smooth. Always an ongoing need to second-guess client preferences and to deliver a quality product. Due to a current climate that encourages individuals to enter ‘opinions’ on every aspect of life, there’s an ever-changing force of published client interactions on multiple websites — Angie’s List, Yelp, etc. We’ve managed to excel on all of these websites, and, unlike most, we address negativism with directness and an unwillingness to accept unwarranted criticism without airing our Company’s negative retorts, i.e., we don’t take ‘shit’ and don’t sit idly when it is transmitted.
Restorers Without Borders – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Restorers Without Borders is a 9 person furniture repair and restoration business. Our ‘woodworking magicians’ excel in difficult challenges on all wooden furniture pieces — structural repairs, stripping and refinishing chairs, side tables and/or dining tables, faux painting and gold-leafing, and the like.
Our Company is set apart from most others by virtue of our staff size and work quality. We don’t do advertising, thus our steady flow of work primarily comes via word of mouth and ‘repeat offenders’ who like our output that they keep coming back with additional projects.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Proudest moment is and continues to be taking business that heretofore never existed and growing them into major community forces.
