Meet Jeannine Adipietro of Sky Salon Lincoln and Lexington in Suburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannine Adipietro.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeannine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was a master colorist in NY. I used traditional, major label color brands for years. I became interested in organic food and gardening and sustainability. My husband and used organic and natural products for ourselves and our children at home. At that time, I was still going to work every day and using hair coloring products with lots of chemicals. When we decided to move to the Boston area, I was determined to find a salon that used more natural hair colors and holistic hair care and styling products. Basically, there weren’t any to speak of. In 2014 I decided to open a salon that used the most natural products I could find. Business has been great. It makes us so happy to share our vision with clients.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We officially opened our first salon in Lincoln in May 2015. I definitely had a few days in the beginning where I thought, “Does anyone care about using more natural hair coloring products in a salon setting? Is this a viable business model or are people just interested going to Whole Foods and getting boxed color?” What helped boost my confidence was the fact that people were emailing and calling before we ever opened our doors.

Sky Salon Lincoln and Lexington – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We have a holistic focus in the sense that we want to know who people are and what has drawn them to our salons. Clients often tell us that they enjoy the atmosphere of our spaces and that they feel very comfortable and relaxed when they visit. We’re always so happy to hear that.

We focus on using hair color with minimal chemical ingredients. They’re 96-99% naturally derived with many ingredients being either organic, naturally sourced or biodynamic. Since this is our focus, we attract clients who are looking for something “cleaner and greener” without sacrificing professional results. We also have lots of curly haired clients. Our color lines are perfect since they’re gentle and conditioning. It’s a win-win because naturally curly hair tends to be dry.

Another important service we offer is called Sky Cares. It’s specifically for clients who have been through medical treatments or have suffered hair loss due to disease or the use of medications. People who have been through medical crisis are often very mindful of the ingredients in hair and body care products. We help with haircuts and color choices, often using off-the-scalp highlighting methods to brighten their natural hair color.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
From a business perspective, I think success happens when you can take something you love doing and learning about and providing a service involving that other people are looking for.

If I can take my love of design, structure and form, marry that with my passion for natural products and educate and inspire my staff and clients to feel inspired, I feel successful.
