Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Ford.
Jay, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduation from Berklee College Of Music I became a private studio instructor in Framingham teaching 50 private lessons per week for six years.
For the next sixteen years I was the Education Director of a lesson program in the metro west area overseeing all aspects of the program while maintaining my 50 private lessons per week.
In 2002 my wife Donna and I opened The Music Maker School. A complete music education facility currently with a faculty of fifteen instructors.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been fairly smooth. We opened the school with me as the only teacher and within a year we had ten instructors on our faculty, so our initial growth was quite fast.
Some of the challenges are students can be really busy so for some it is difficult to dedicate oneself to learning an instrument.
Private music instruction is a completely unregulated industry, so anyone can say they are a music teacher. Everyone of our teachers at the Music Maker School possesses at least Bachelor of Music Degree.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We offer private lessons on: piano, guitar, bass, voice, violin, viola, winds, reeds, brass, ukulele, banjo, lap steel, mandolin, drums and percussion.
In addition to private lessons we have year round ensembles, rock bands – all ages, and a summer camp rock band program.
The Music Maker offers yearly recitals in addition to many performing opportunities. Our students have been invited to perform at professional sporting events, the Hard Rock Cafe, the House Of Blues and numerous local community events.
What sets us apart from others is education is our focus and our motto is: “IT MUST BE FUN!”
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Music is a universal language. One should be able to start anywhere.
