Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Janet Hsu-Lin and Dr. Joseph Oren.
Dr. Janet has been practicing pediatric emergency medicine for the last 20 years in prestigious hospitals such as Duke Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Newton-Wellesley Hospital. With her continued deep passion for pediatric acute care, and the realization of the need for specialized pediatric urgent care as well as after-hour primary care services for working parents, the idea of KidsWell was born. Dr. Janet visited and learned from the national leaders of successful pediatric urgent care centers and is in the Founder’s Circle of Pediatric Urgent Care Society. Dr. Oren, a beloved and well-known pediatrician in the community, has over 30 years of experience in primary care as well as specialty in pediatric pulmonary medicine.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all from the beginning. Since KidsWell is the first community-based pediatric practice with the new model of offering both primary care and urgent care, we had various challenges setting up the optimal credentialing and contracting with the insurance companies.
We have received many compliments and wonderful reviews from the families that have received care from KidsWell. Unfortunately we are often having trouble receiving payments due to the lack of support providing referrals from primary care physician’s offices, even for after-hour care we provided. This concern also hinders some families seeking after-hour urgent care that their child is in need of.

KidsWell is the first community based pediatric practice in the state that offers high quality primary care, urgent care and specialty medicine under one roof. We provide state-of-the art onsite laboratory and X-rays in addition to the most complete health maintenance services per American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations. KidsWell is open 7 days a week and offers a convenient and comfortable care alternative to the Emergency Room for patients who need to be seen when their pediatrician is unavailable, or for services their physician may not provide. When patients receive care here at KidsWell, they will always be evaluated by an experienced pediatrician who is on-site during all the operating hours.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Greater Boston area is home to one of the most well-established medical systems providing a wide spectrum of services, ranging from primary care to specialty services in the major hospitals and their satellite sites. There are also plenty of freestanding urgent care centers in the community. However, there is NO urgent care center that is staffed by pediatricians and NO pediatric practice that offers primary care services during evenings and weekends for working parents. KidsWell is the ONLY practice that, having experienced pediatricians on site at all times, offers the highest quality of primary and urgent care for pediatric patients in the Metrowest community.
