Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Hirschhorn.
Jane, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have worked as a writing teacher and tutor for more than 20 years in a variety of educational settings. Early in my career, I discovered I especially enjoyed working with students individually. About 10 years ago, I began tutoring students here and there at the request of friends, family, and colleagues. In 2013, I decided the time was right for me to launch my own writing tutoring business.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest learning curve for me was learning how to market myself effectively and knowing how to get in front of my target audience. I was surprised how much time, effort and expense is needed for marketing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with JBH Tutoring – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a sole proprietor, and I work with students in person and via Skype.
I help students improve their writing skills in order to get better results in school and beyond. I work primarily with high school students both on academic writing and college essays. What sets me apart is my ability to communicate effectively with warmth, kindness, and a sense of humor. As a company, I am most proud of my success with students and that my reputation as an effective tutor continues to grow.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love our city’s intellectualism and the number of people who come here for school or work to make a better life for themselves. I don’t like the traffic or the fact that spring is a long time in coming.
