Today we’d like to introduce you to James Anderson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us James. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I studied stained glass at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts. I also studied painting. I combined them and learned to paint on glass. My business started the late 70s when Boston was starting an architectural renaissance of people moving back into the cities. Within a matter of time and years of very diligent work I became the company all major businesses and high end construction companies choose. I am considered best on east coast by Yankee Magazine and am regularly features on This Old House. Our specialty is custom design in every style and period of stained glass.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, I would say as a young man I needed to gain experience and by the time I was 50 years old I had the experience and exposure that I needed to be great. I have a team of talented artists that work with me and we take on very large and small commissions. I feel very comfortable designing for my clients and can get a good insight into their tastes to give them what they are looking for in the finest quality. We don’t take shortcuts and do very intricate detail in our work.
Jim Anderson Stained Glass – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am most proud of becoming successful as an artist and working in a beautiful studio in the nicest part of Boston that I built and designed.
I believe our quality to details and sensitivity to architecture as well as some great painting techniques has given us a name so that everyone in Boston seems to feel we are the best. We have done hundreds of doorways and historic designs as well as the best restaurants have my work in them.
Each stained glass artist is like a painter with a different style and I believe our style is very sensitive and beautiful.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success! Hmmmm? I’m busy for the unforeseen future. Some jobs will take over a year. I don’t worry about having enough work but about having too much work. Some of my clients did national searches to find the best stained glass artists in America and they choose my company.
That humbled me. I think I really felt successful when I was at a job site and I discussed the proper type of window and design and architectural atmosphere and installation and all the heads of major construction companies and architects, etc…. We’re taking notes. I realized then I was successful and knowledgeable.
