Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaimie DeRosa.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jaimie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a double-board certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. I devote my practice to facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, with a special interest in rhinoplasty (both primary and revision).
After graduating with a Bachelor in Science with Distinction from the University of Virginia, I obtained a Masters in Science at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute/SUNY @ Buffalo. I then completed my Medical Degree at SUNY @ Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I underwent Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency training at Boston University, acting as Administrative Chief Resident during the final year and then pursued intensive fellowship training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
In 2008, I was recruited to the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary to further develop the Harvard-based otolaryngology residency training program within the division of facial plastic surgery and is an Assistant Professor in Otology and Laryngology at the Harvard Medical School. Seeking a more-personalized, boutique approach to caring for her patients, I opened my own private practice in 2013, DeRosa Clinic.
I maintain admitting and operating privileges at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and continue to be involved in teaching students at various institutions. I am also an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at Boston University School of Medicine.
I have been an invited lecturer both throughout the United States and abroad. I am also is actively involved in both the American Board of Otolaryngology and American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery board certification processes and served as Chair of both the Fellowship Curriculum Compendium Subcommittee and the Women in Facial Plastic Surgery Committee for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
I also co-chaired the 2017 American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Annual Meeting.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Opening a private medical practice after working in academic hospital-based institutions was very interesting and probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever undertaken. Not only did I have to continue to be a plastic surgeon, I also became a business owner of a small company. Figuring out how to balance these roles on a daily basis has been challenging but very rewarding.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about DeRosa Clinic – what should we know?
I own a boutique facial plastic surgery and facial aesthetics practice on Newbury Street in the Back Bay. As a double-board certified plastic surgeon, I provide the highest standard of care in the world of facial plastic surgery and aesthetics in a contemporary, welcoming and private environment. My team includes a master aesthetician who provides the highest quality of facial aesthetic procedures, such as PRP microneedling, and routine facials.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family and husband deserve the most credit- each of whom has supported and believed in me during my training and when I decided to leave the comfort of an academic medical practice to start out on my own. I have been fortunate to have had several amazing mentors, from my high school biology teacher, Mr. Stineman, my residency chairman, Dr. Grundfast, to my fellowship director, Dr. Toriumi. They supported my ambitions and recognized my drive and high level of expectations and goal that I set for myself– and knew that I could achieve them.
