Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquelin Grace Corti.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jacquelin Grace. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I came from fairly humble beginnings. As a child, I always had a fascination with art. I drew, painted, and eventually started photographing. I attended the Blue Hills Regional Voc. Tech to focus on Design and Visual Communications. I was grateful that I was able to work on my art in a professional manner at a younger age. It was there that I really discovered my niche for a photo. From there, I continued to get my BFA in Photography at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. There, I learned a variety of photographic mediums. I have used film and digital photography for almost ten years, now. Today, I am currently working as a photographer in the tourist district of Boston along with doing my personal fine art.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think it’s fair to say that having an interesting life is both a gift and a curse, especially as an artist. I dealt with my own personal evils and traumas, but have of course learned from them greatly. These things have been a fantastic vehicle to a lot of my work; however, they have also been a deterrent. One of the largest troubles I faced was the death of my mother. When I was away on a semester abroad, I had received the news that she had passed after struggling with illness for years. Art was a massive calming agent at the time in those first few weeks – but as I went through the motions of grief, I found myself feeling less and less motivated to create. I almost gave up my passion completely (or at least I felt like I wanted to). Eventually, I broke out of the artistic depression and I was able to focus on being myself again. I even started a project based on using art as a form of dealing with grief! I hope to post a book on it soon.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jacquelin Grace Corti Photography – what should we know?
My photography contains a lot of thoughtful meaning and concepts. I like to say my most popular works are my self-portraits. I always enjoyed photographing myself, but when I learned how to express myself on a more deeper level, I started using the camera as a tool to my visual journal. Although, when it comes to working with models and other subjects, I dedicated all of my time and effort to create a piece(s) that we both can be happy with.
My technique consists of a decent amount of photo manipulation (Photoshop work) that makes my photos look anywhere from ethereal to painterly.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I’d probably say my most successful selling point has been my passion. I get comments often about how sparkly and excited I get when it comes to photography or art, in general, really. Passion has been the driving point in all of this.
