Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Valmont.
Isaiah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been a musically inclined kid. In elementary school, I played the trumpet, but it wasn’t an instrument I was super passionate about. I started doing music seriously when I was about 12 years old. I grew up playing piano in church. I was self-taught. I’d always have to sit in front of my computer with my keyboard and figure out the songs I had to learn for church by ear. I started out playing at my family’s congregation, a Haitian church in Brockton, Ma. There I met so many other musicians that challenged to want to get bet at my craft every day. The summer before I started my freshman year of high school, my father passed away. Around the same time when I got to high school, a group of my friends started rapping and because I had played keys I figured why not just produce too? I instantly fell in love with making beats, and haven’t stopped since. The void that ensued when my father passed turned into drive as if I’m living for him. I put all that energy into wanting to make my mom proud and provide for my siblings. I noticed that I was actually good though when artists around my city started hitting me up and telling me that they recognized what I’m doing and it motivated me to go even harder. Since high school, staying consistent has opened up doors for me that I’d never imagine. This pasts year I’ve been flooding local Brockton and Boston artists that I like with my beats and boy do we have some hits in the stash! I’ve mostly been working with Boston rapper Pe$o Boii as of lately, but I also have work with Maka, Chizz Capo, Ashauni, Patrick Michel, Dtheflyest, Latrell James, Blackheart, Rosewood Bape and more.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles would definitely be developing a proper following. I felt like nobody cared about my brands or my beats at first. But with hard work and consistency, there’s no way anyone can fail.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about your work – what should we know?
I am a music producer. I make heavy hitting, melodic, hip-hop beats. What sets me apart from a lot of my peers around here is that I play piano and learned to do so before I started producing so I can literally play out a melody and have a beat done in 5-10 minutes.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being humble, staying hungry (never satisfied), staying consistent, always putting God first no matter what I can’t forget where I came from.
