Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Irina Koles.
Dr. Irina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started with my passion for cooking since I was 14. Hundreds of recipes from magazines, favorite chefs, family and friends, were saved and have been practiced. Family events’ planning and menus became totally my responsibility. Our guests started to name their recipes: “Irina’s marinated meat”, “Irina’s pie” “Irina’s cake” etc’.
Interestingly enough, I’ve never considered becoming a professional chef. Everything related to food – menus, shopping, cooking and of course eating, all started as and remain exclusively a hobby.
Graduating from Medical School, raising a family, moving across continents, countries, and changing professions, have never impacted my hobby of cooking. Failure or success, friends’ parties or just a curiosity – everything made more sense in the kitchen!
At one point my cooking hobby has gotten a whole new meaning. It rescued me becoming my friend, offering a wonderful new solution for permanent weight loss and a general health.
Cooking new, simple and delicious meals created extra time, added variety and offered endless opportunities in eating healthy AND delicious food.
Despite my initial skepticism, the new lifestyle successfully got through a 20-years trial, proving my choice.
All my professions (physical therapist, primary care physician, luggage salesman, data analyst, author, cooking show host) finally fit under one umbrella, which is my lifetime hobby – yummy and healthy food!
Has it been a smooth road?
There is no easy way to success and I am far from being an exception. It was a long and tough path, but was worth choosing.
My life has been challenging, thank God in a good way!
I went through two immigrations, starting life from scratch twice.
My second immigration (from Israel to USA) was really hard; absorbing a contrast culture, learning a third language and working retail after being a physician.
Opening a business was new for me and has brought more difficulties which included learning marketing, publicity strategies, and working 16 hour days with no salary.
However, the passion for contributing to people’s health and vitality gave me the courage to proceed on blind faith and do everything I could, wherever I was with whatever I had. And I still do that :))
We’d love to hear more about your business.
